I’ve seen your comments in the other thread, and let me just say this…I feel like this is a lot of emotion for something that ultimately is not a big deal. Yes, it’s very clearly riding the wave of the Bloody Mary/Wednesday hype from a couple of years ago…but…who cares? I don’t think it’s an inauthentic song—it fits in perfectly with the rest of MAYHEM.

Also, if we’re being honest, MAYHEM itself is a response to the Wednesday hype. I doubt she would’ve gone in this spooky/goth route for this album had it not been for the success of Wednesday and Bloody Mary. It also harkens back to her older sound, which you could argue is ā€œinauthenticā€ because she’s just chasing the success of her earlier work. To be clear, I don’t think that at all. I’m just trying to work around your comment/opinion.Ā 

What’s important is that she seems like she’s in a very happy place with her life and her music. She said that she’s been the happiest making MAYHEM, and I think it shows. She has fun touring, performing, and interacting with fans. Dead Dance is just another thing on top of that. ItĀ

Well... Me? I care because I'm someone who connects most to Gaga and her music when I think she's being authentic and a big part of that for me is enjoying when she follows her own musical inclinations and not trying to force a hit. I would put other songs (Sour Candy, The Cure, maybe even Stupid Love) in the same category of TDD, though I do think the latter is the worst offender of 'hit chasing' because it feels to me like the song is specifically intended to go viral on TikTok, which I find jarring.

And yes, I guess you're right about Wednesday/BM inspiring Mayhem but the inspiration was authentic and she didn't create an album filled of hit-chasers. The record's biggest hit - Abracadabra, if we exclude DWAS - is inspired by her earlier work but it doesn't try to chase popularity. It's very unique.Ā

I think you just dislike a specific sound…Stupid Love, The Cure, and Sour Candy all have a very ā€œmodernā€, poppy sound. I could see Dead Dance being in a similar vein, although it’s much closer to the disco/funk tracks that are on MAYHEM. Aside from the bridge, I don’t see how Dead Dance is actively trying to be a ā€œhitā€. Again, it’s just a catchy pop song, which could theoretically do well on TikTok, but I don’t think she made this with the sole intention of going viral on TikTok. She recently said that she was working on this song before being approached for Wednesday, so this was part of the MAYHEM sessions—which again, makes sense considering it sounds so similar to the funkier tracks on the record.

And I disagree about the ā€œhit chasersā€ of MAYHEM. The album is full of catchy, infectious choruses and melodies. I don’t think she was like ā€œEVERY SINGLE SONG ON THIS RECORD NEEDS TO BE A HIT YOU GUYS,ā€ but she was clearly consciously making earworm songs. I think you could argue that like half the songs on the album would’ve been a viable single. But earworm, catchy songs =/= her being inauthentic and trying to get a viral hit.Ā

Absolutely, As bad romance is a response of the fame hype. Totally normal, maybe they're not much manufacturing, and i think Gaga knows it can't be done twice, but follow a scheme. It probably helps her as well. Maybe the song took a different live after being thrown in the bin. Doesn't feel stale or a copy of her work. Just in the same vein.Ā
