Billie Jean is #73 with 10.4M points These points are only cumulated when the song charts inside top 40 each week.
SpiritBunny 3,538
Candle in the wind? That seems so random to me. I know it’s a famous song but the biggest song ever? I’m confused lol

I guess it must be considering its performance in US was good but not THAT good Ofc this is a global chart, based on radio and sales. DWAS is still #7 weekly and gaining 170k points. As long as it stays inside top 40 it will cumulate more points, and looks like it will stay there a long time.

It is, but the streaming numbers will translate into sales and pointing numbers to count for those charts. AIWFCIY, a super popular song from the 90s is there and will keep on climbing the charts given the Xmas boosts every year.

Best selling artist of all time (or 2nd highest) doesnt automatically mean individual songs have to be at the top. The success can just be spread out thru many more songs Ex: Kesha had best selling song of 2010 (Tik Tok) but she was not the best selling artist overall

I’m confused lol In the past sales were heavy for chart points... I think a lot of songs that ppl appreciate could have sold well but not necessairily have been replayed a lot over the years. I do know at the time this song was #1 for like 16 weeks on the hot 100 or something tho lol. I know it was the longest #1 for a long time until Old Town Road finally beat that record (and now Bar Song)
HeavyCapiLover 3,822
Tbh streaming is kinda making this list less relevant since most of those songs came out after 2020, yet, some of them dont feel anywhere as big as some old massive hit that brought together every generations (I gotta feeling, Billie Jean, Baby one more time, etc) 1

I can also agree not really if i try to be unbiased When I think about it, I think "I will Always Love You" is the only deserving on that list

It's not a list of the most SPS units ever, but a list of longevity, since it requires charting inside top 40 to accumulate more points. We know it combines them but the weight they put in streaming is so much that it makes it streaming-biased as charts are also heavily based on streaming. I mean Dance Monkey as one of the most successful song in history, come on… Edited September 2 by elsamars

I mean Dance Monkey as one of the most successful song in history, come on… I dont think its necessairily unfair The global population has grown as has the global community that directly accesses American music I dont think its that the number of streams required to make 1 sales point is off... i think its that more ppl in general can create demand to listen to these songs while songs from decades ago had a smaller population size pool market to work with. That does put older songs at a disadvantage, but not necessairily because streaming is unfair, theres just more people who can access the music now because dynamics have changed Id argue is more unfair to try to strip off points from a larger market of real music activity just so older songs who had a smaller market to work with have a chance to compete on chart stats Edit: you could in theory make a chart to try to adjust for these changes to try and compare what songs were most successful relative to their time. But ud need a chart based on some kind of index which would then require more complex formulas to adjust for annual changes on consumption for these things analagous to the CPI for measuring inflation, that requires a sh*t tone of data and constant adjustments. If ur going purely off of points as we measure it for music, that doesnt really work Edited September 2 by Economy

There’s clearly a metric that causes shift and it’s streaming. Edited September 2 by elsamars
