Mirrion Rizzons 11,217
I agree, mainly due to bloodpop’s safe production choices and short songs - although some songs definitely get it right: 1. Rain On Me - it does sound a little H&M, but there’s no denying the production eats and the song is so danceable 2. 911 - it feels monotonous which I’d compare to the feeling of being on anti-depressants/other medication, it works really well for the songs meaning. 3. Replay 4. Babylon also us fans love dark pop gaga, but really Chromatica is her darkest album lyrically to date Edited Monday at 11:00 PM by Mirrion Rizzons

StrawberryBlond 14,898
It's one of her weakest releases for me. But when it comes to Gaga, even at her worst, she's still head and shoulders above most of the industry. The album's perfectly solid but when I know how good Gaga can be, it's just not her usual standards. There are high points but none that would feature on my all-time list of favourites. ROM is definitely one of my all-time favourite singles from her but none of the album tracks would make my top 10. I hope it was just a blip. At least it wasn't a disastrous flop either especially considering the pandemic threw all those grand promo plans out the window. Let's face it, so many careers suffered in 2020 but Gaga wasn't one of them despite the setbacks to all the plans. How many artists can carry out a sold-out stadium tour for their 2.5 year old mildly successful album with only one big hit?
Omegahedron 190
I really really like Chromatica and it has a special place in my heart and view of her discography. However, (and I know this isn't the point you're making) compared with how she sounds on Mayhem and the musical texture of that album, Chromatica is on reflection a little flat and lethargic. I'm sure this observation has been made by others before, but it does seem reflective of her relative mental states at the time of making them.
