Is The Dead Dance extending/relaunching MAYHEM era, closing it, or starting a new era?

  1. 1. The Dead Dance is…

    • Extending / Relaunching the MAYHEM era. It will unlock additional MAYHEM goodies / deluxe addition / more singles or music vids to come VIY, GOE, or new tracks. The journey continues 🪞⏩

    • The MAYHEM era grand finale, last single. big visual era closer ( à la GUY film for ARTPOP, 911 for chromatica, MTN vid for Born This Way) 🎉

    • Standalone project / new mini era (within Mayhem era) 💀🕺🏻

Not to be this person, but filming wrapped about a month before the tour and came out 8 months after the era was over lol. IMO that’s very different than TDD being both thematically and aesthetically similar as well as coming out during the tour.

They filmed her performing while on tour and used it in the film though (Ally’s tour) so TECHNICALLY not. But yeah it’s different.
But what I basically meant with my initial post is, it’s not a continuation of Mayhem (I don’t think anyway)

In the age of streaming when you listen to the album, you’re pretty much done with it. You either like it and keep on listening to it or not. Mayhem had much more potential than just DWAS or Abra, and a typical streamer isn’t gonna continue streaming it if she doesnt follow up with a new single or a mv

But we also have to keep in my mind that eras tour started as a tour for midnights then came TTPD. So she literally didnt have to do all that. That’s why I’m saying Gaga should’ve released at least one more single and dead dance while the tour is ongoing, and use the tour as a promo, like taylor did

MVs are declining in popularity and are generally fairly expensive to make, so in the age of streaming, record labels’ logic is again the opposite of what you’re saying: labels will usually only bother to throw money behind a song if it seems to be picking up steam on its own to capitalize on its existing popularity and not the other way around.

Extending the era. It's clearly going to be a Halloween themed song so it's being released at this time to benefit from spooky season. The hopeful success of that will act as a springboard for a continuation of Mayhem single releases. I'd like GoE to be released in the winter season next, so The Dead Dance will be a good palette cleanser for that. Wishful thinking and all, but I can dream.

Top Gun:Maverick was originally planned to release at the end of 2020 before the pandemic happened. Leaked plans indicate that originally there were going to be three Chromatica singles and then closing out the era with Hold My Hand. The era was going to have a bunch of promo tours like Coachella, Mexico, Copacabana, Singapore, etc. with the tour happening Summer 2021. Seems like most of the marketing and ideas planned for Chromatica went into Mayhem.

With that said, I personally hope for a Mayhem extension ep releasing with TDD being the lead. I do think TDD was recorded and originally intended for Mayhem but was chosen for Wednesday instead. Dream scenario would be TDD being lead for Mayhem companion EP. Companion EP gets announced during The Grammy’s with the second single releasing. Companion EP releases on the one year anniversary of Mayhem. Mayhem Ball 2.0 is a Chromatica length stadium tour. Mayhem remix album on the same level as Dawn of Chromatica releases September 2026 with the first single releasing late May/Early June being Vanish Into You with someone featured on it. One more original song is released with the remix album drop and is used to promote her tour film.
