The most contrived song when Sour Candy is right there? And also I feel like the accusation that the inclusion of the “do the dead dance” in the bridge functions *exclusively* for TikTok, as if Gaga has never adopted the role of a quasi-villainess or used those types of spoken interludes in her songs before, is kind of disingenuous. IMO there’s nothing particularly out of character or inauthentic about the song itself. I can’t say I’m obsessed with it, but to act like it’s insulting, patronizing, or hollow marketing in and of itself feels a bridge too far.

I never said she hasn't "adopted the role of a quasi-villainess or used those types of spoken interludes in her songs before"? I like it when she does that - usually. My point is that I think the words she's singing are intended to be an instruction for a dance challenge. I have no issue with how she's singing them ("do the dead dance"). I didn't say the song is insulting or patronising either. I said it's a thinly-veiled attempt at forcing virality.

i hope this is not the only look :flippy:

I could understand if it is, the makeup work seems very detailed and labor intensive.

Well, I guess they could change outfits and keep the makeup, less than 2 hours to find out! :holdmyhand:

You literally used the word “patronizing” to describe the inclusion of the spoken instruction “do the dead dance.” And if even the intention is to inspire a viral dance trend, that’s not exactly a novel trend in pop either and, like I said, I think the inclusion of that lyric works within the song, Gaga’s style, and the style of the album, as well as in the context of social media, so it doesn’t really bother me.

From Abracadabra onward though, I feel like most of the rollout has gone pretty much as intended. I honestly don’t think the promo around Disease was ever meant to be much bigger. At this point in her career, Gaga doesn’t seem interested in heavy promo cycles the way she used to be; it feels more like she wants the music itself to take center stage.

I think from Abra onward we lost whatever was planned with VIY leading to it being on the promo sticker. That may simply be explained by the fact Abra was building up steam up to and beyond album release tbf.
There's also the possibility it was planned as a post-Xmas promo single we lost to the LA fires. Or my personal theory, VIY was a promo single planned for the launch of The Lady & Me which has ended up in limbo.

As for Disease, I think they likely planned to tie it into the JFAD media campaign that would have been happening Nov-Jan. Especially with them dropping the acoustic version - that seemed ripe for a "Gaga will do a quick acoustic number while appearing at X event to promo JFAD" and I definitely think she would have been on more talk shows when they timed up well with nomination windows for awards season.

As for the post release? I think if we ever had a chance of a post release single (that wasn't new music like Dead Dance) it was killed when they decided to tour. There was no way with the 2025 tour schedule that we could have got another video + single  & Dead Dance and the revamped tour.
But I do think we lost the start of the Mayhem era to actual mayhem lol

Like I said, it's the words - not the singing style. I don't think it's a narrow pet peeve. It's a fundamental issue I have with the song (given it's titled after those words and that they're shoehorned into a very lacklustre bridge). This is just my opinion though. Clearly, you don't have to agree with it! I haven't shared my thoughts for people to agree; I've shared them because as a fan I enjoy processing my own thoughts on Gaga's work, whether they're positive or negative :)

I didn't say the song was patronising overall btw. I said the instruction in the bridge patronises listeners, which I stand by - I do think its patronising to essentially repeat a hashtag and call it a bridge.
