Kevbev 413
Scheiße is probably my favorite song from Born This Way. I don't think I've ever gotten sick of it. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if it had been released as a single. Do you think it would have been a hit? I think radio stations may have been hesitant to play it, due to its title and intro. I suppose a shortened version could have been released, though. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Delulu Rogers 7,251
She was so popular back then it would have had at least a decent placement on charts. A music video would have gotten tons of views, maybe even out view Judas if it was stellar. It would have gotten positive reviews from critics too and the gp would enjoy it. Maybe it would do well on radio with cutting out the intro. I used to think they would ban it cause of its title but then WAP was played on radio so idk. AVeryGagaHolyDick 25,509
Depends on when it would be released. Timing is a crucial factor in this case. Gaga’s IT-GIRL glory was quickly dying during the Born This Way era, especially in the second half of 2011. Had “Scheiße” been released after “Yoü And I”, it would have stood no chance to make it in the top 20 of the BBH100. “Marry The Night” just did as good as any single could. I think they pretty much picked the perfect singles (not really with the right timing), but truthfully, at this point in her career, the success of her singles wasn’t THAT dependent on the sound of the songs. “Scheiße” would have been #1 for a couple weeks if it was the first single, not for as long as “Born This Way”, though. It would’ve probably just missed the top 10 if it was released instead of “Judas”, “The Edge Of Glory” or “Yoü And I”, just for the its title and gibberish parts. In terms of massive singles success appeal, she was cooked after the summer and just couldn’t be saved, no matter what the song was. That said, for the 5th single and to maximize the chances to avoid a G.U.Y.-sized flop, I believe they essentially had two options: “Marry The Night” or “Bloody Mary”, the most accessible tracks for the GP as well as fan favorites. They chose “Marry The Night”, one of the two best options, probably hoping to kinda replicate the reception to “The Edge Of Glory”. I believe “Bloody Mary” would’ve been a slightly better choice back in the day, but it couldn’t have done wonders anyway. JohnnyVersace 9,019
I honestly feel like it would have out-performed Judas. Sure it's a curse word, but the message is just about empowerment without any religious themes. And it's a better song tbh
27monster27 13,135
The issue is if the song title creates an "If U Seek Amy" situation. If radio would play it, it would be an obvious single choice. It has the distinct Lady Gaga factor that made her successful. Idk though, radio was HUGE at the time. Having another issue with radio after Judas would be bad. It's hard to say. Same thing with Gypsy too. Some of her best single choices are hampered by the titles. he/him/his
mamo 19,092
imagine having a no.1 or top 10 single called "Sh*t" like that would have just been legendary. regardless it's definitely one of her best songs and I'm glad Scheiße got to have such an iconic moment during the coahcella/copacabana shows during that epic first act. Ï could be your girlfriend for the weekend...
Sugar Baby 846
It would underperform that’s for sure but we would at least get a killer video with amazing performances i still think it should have been released after the edge of glory and perform it at the vmas Meanwhile you and I is perfect for the holidays
Awrah999 4,308
It should have been a single. It’s extremely catchy and unique. It could have been shortened for radio (removed the long intro) and would’ve been a sure fire earworm. It still wouldn’t totally “fit” with what was popular on radio at the time, but not much on the Born This Way album did at the time aside from the title track and The Edge of Glory. I think it could’ve been the second single or third single (after Judas) and done fairly well commercially especially with a good music video. It is just begging for great visuals and I’m glad we at least got a taste of that with the FAME commercial and the Mayhem live performances.
TEANUS 15,071
I think it could’ve been a big hit in Europe and probably other international markets but I think after the 1-2-3 punch that was Alejandro-BTW-Judas the public wanted something more easily digestible from her. Her single choices ever since have been quite safer. Scheiße (WW) / Y&I (US) as a double release probably could’ve worked quite well to secure a top 10 in the US and potentially a bigger hit WW British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS
Lord Mayhem 878
If it had the same aesthetic of Abracadabra...it would have been huge but as always Interflop doesn't know how to pick Gaga's singles despite GGD back in the day having a voting poll for next single...they didn't listen
Anderson123 38,382
Gaga wanted Marry The Night, Born This Way, Scheiße and The Edge of Glory as singles in that order and think that would’ve been a great run. Scheiße as single after You and I or Marry The Night as we got it, I think it’d have been a moderate hit and would’ve had an amazing music video.
faysalaaa 4,577
It was seen as such a weird song at the time, I dont think it would have done good. I think it would do good if it was released today though.

I thought the German might hide it, but a lot of people would probably pick it apart. he/him/his
