Singer Belinda Carlisle has criticised pop stars such as Dua Lipa for her “sexualised” performances, branding them “embarrassing”.

The musician, who rose to fame as part of the new wave band The Go-Go’s before achieving mainstream success with her solo hit “Heaven Is a Place on Earth”, disagreed that performances by “young women” in the music industry are “empowering”.
 

“These days young women in the music industry are just so sexualised. Like, what happened? I don’t get it.” Maybe it’s more of a choice for some artists these days? They see it as empowering? “It’s not empowering. It’s embarrassing.” 
“Yes, you will get attention, but not the right kind, and down the line you are going to look back and say: ‘Wish I hadn’t done that.’
I mean: Dua Lipa? It’s shocking! She’s so talented. She doesn’t need to do that.”

pop girls have always been held to a much higher standard, that's what she should be mad about and how their appearance will always take priority over their talent
