Sometimes these people don’t have the resources or will to do it themselves so in my opinion forcibly getting people help could be best for the individuals and the entire community. I was just in Denver and it was sad and alarming to see so many homeless suffering from drug abuse or severe mental conditions. Just leaving people out in the streets to rot is far from humane if you ask me. No one is saying that the homeless should be left in the streets, but this EO doesn't try to help them at all. It's letting law enforcement detain and involuntarily commit people indefinitely. Completely against their will, with almost no guardrails to prevent rampant abuse. Also, even without abuse, there aren't facilities to actually help these people. They will end up in prisons and camps where they'll be kept out of public view with zero help. In theory, the constitution prevents all this. Sadly the court that interprets the constitution can't read anymore. Anyone can be a homeless one day, after losing their job, losing their home... Like idk, we are bragging about $2 billion grossing concert, but these people can't even buy a slice of bread and now being treated like they are worst than murderers and rapists. All of that would be great discourse, but at the moment we're losing our republic. You can't put out the fire when one side is actively stoking it. We have to wait for people to wake up. I got to accept that Trump is the face of the majority of the Americans so technically, we're not losing the republic, they are taking it back and shaping it into what they want. This is America Trump is the face of some voting Americans*. You're disregarding the voice of Americans abroad, of Puerto Ricans, other territories, those who had their votes thrown out, those who live in a majority Republican state, etc. Turning your back on America because some votes were suppressed and it altered the outcome of an election does not make you better than the Americans we both hate. American Rescue Act for instance, which had foundations for a universal basic income. Also expanded child tax credits to also resemble universal basic income. The bipartisan infrastructure bill had $65 billion for public housing.
