Lol because it sounds like one of his old songs. Love that

Didn't he criticize ARTPOP or something?

"ARTPOP was not a great idea. It was not a good album and I think she would admit that... I think she's a great writer. To me, she is (real name) Stefani Germanotta and I love her and I care about her - she's godmother to my two children. And I want her to go and make a kind of simple, fabulous, great song record. Maybe like (Carole King album) Tapestry, but her version."

Remember when he said one of the RedOne tracks from 2014/2015 reminded him of Bad Romance. :bradley:

For me, Lola seems highly manufactured, which is fine in itself, but with her being so young and having the image she has which generates... comments... I worry for her sanity. I do not like her music or her presentation but it's unlikely that in her target audience so that's fine. It all just feels a bit.. exploitative.

I don't trust his taste in music anymore so him saying it's the biggest smash hit means nothing.

but I do think Lola is actually really great and has a phenomenal future ahead, no shade to her, I just hate when people hype up a song before it's released - they always end up being mediocre, similar to the hype around Dua's latest album which did not deliver to the hype that was raised. Anyways!

Same but I cherish him and his contributions. Also, his recent era with Britney and Dua was a cute way to celebrate his old catalog with newer tastes. I was a fan of that approach.

I don't necessarily think her schtick is exploitative but it's just that....it feels like in the same way we've always had these generational relatable characters that are at the very least partially manufactured to connect with youth....this is hinging on a mental health component. So yeah. The look, just like Avril, is highly stylized and curated = marketing.

And essentially the POLAR opposite of Gaga, who built her own brand and image around a team of her friends and fellow creatives. It was extravagant, otherworldly and kitsch. Higher levels of art in her followup singles. The highly stylized downtrodden vibe is prob why it reeks of inauthenticity.
