Afganistan's borders are a post-colonial creation decided by the British and Russian Empire, who drew a deeply multiethnic society, where there is no ethnicity constituting more than 50% of the population. Many of these populations speak Indo-European languages, like Dari/Farsi (official in Iran), which belongs to the Indo-Iranian branch of the linguistic tree that also includes Germanic, Latin and Slavic languages, while Arabic is an Afro-Asiatic language, seen as unrelated to the Indo-European (except for a few fringe theories that place them together).
