And now even 3 months after album release we still have people shading DWAS cause people can't move on and admit they are wrong.

Never change liddos. :ladyhaha:

my entire point is that people have no right to be "shocked", it's just made up narratives in peoples heads how they "thought" the album sounded, it has no base in reality.

Forget the aesthetic part (that's nonsense anyways), they would ALWAYS add the song to the album even if it didn't fit, Interscope is not a charity organization, and that brings me to the original point of this convo, you think I'm being condescending for pointing out issues with the logic of many people and maybe my comment hits a bit close to home cause I know very well how you "hated" the addition (at least in the past), but that doesn't make what I said any less true lol

“Forget the aesthetic part” - I won’t because that was basically the entire basis for the disagreement in the fanbase. I get that you think the commercial angle made the inclusion inevitable, but I still think you’re mischaracterizing the issue people had at that time and just flattening it to them being “clueless” is still reductive and condescending. I’ve said multiple times and stand by that most people understood the rationale, which also cuts against the idea that they were clueless lol. They just disagreed based on incomplete information (ie what they thought the album was going to sound like) and some people (read: not me) still disagree and that’s fine lol.

But that aesthetic disagreement was rooted in FANTASY, made up stuff in peoples minds

We didn't knew anything about the album when DWAS was announced for LG7, we only had disease! People just wanted an angle to attacks DWAS and call gaga a sell out and other horrible things. :enigma:

Yeah, but you do realize that part of what singles are about are setting the audience’s expectations and between Disease, eventually Abra, and the visual aesthetic (as well as comments about her “returning to her roots”) many fans, imo understandably, started to believe that the album was going to be predominantly dark/electronic. I think what we ended up getting was amazing, but also I think largely unexpected based on what we saw beforehand. Just because people didn’t anticipate that it might actually fit on the album musically (like me) based on what they were doesn’t make them “clueless,” it just means they were responding to what they had seen up until that point.

I get feeling defensive because you don’t feel that Gaga was selling out or compromising herself creatively, but don’t let other people feeling differently dampen your enjoyment of the album and DWAS. You’re giving them too much power, diva!

i feel bad for whoever u end up with

i mean, it was clear from September/October that DWAS was going to get included in the album, it was already breaking records then, and gaga herself said DWAS was the last piece of the album so you can even argue that the decision was not purely commercial, and after listening to MAYHEM i'd agree with that.

Sorry if my comment seemed aggressive :messga:

Okay, not to soft mod this thread, but: no need to resort to personal insults. I agree that they were being a bit aggro, but two wrongs don’t make a right here.

I know singles create expectations but we knew in January that DWAS would get added and we only had disease at that point, but people choose to attack gaga instead of entertaining the possibility of DWAS actually belonging to the album  Ofc Abra created different expectations but the initial reaction was horrible and it still echos today.

And yes I'm defensive cause DWAS is her biggest song EVER and we have this cloud of doubt over it, it doesn't feel right, we should be the first to champion her and her biggest hit  This is her song, it belongs to her album and it's probably going to be the biggest song of the decade at this rate, any other fanbase would die for something like this.:kry:

I get how you feel, but not everyone necessarily has that same horse race attitude. Like personally, I think it’s great that she’s had such great success with DWAS, but what’s always been fun/cool for me about being a Gaga fan is when my favorite songs became big hits (BR, BM as examples) because I guess it’s kinda cool to feel that broader sense of community with people around music you love.

But DWAS, for me, was a situation where I think it’s great that the song has been massively successful (in part because it helps give her more relevance and latitude to continue to create), but its success doesn’t really have any bearing on how I personally feel about the song (it’s well written, doesn’t really move me or speak to me as much as some of her other stuff).

So I get wanting to rally behind her, but I also don’t think it’s fair to basically tell people that they can’t have divergent opinions because you want people to rally around her success. We’re not an army/unified front, we’re a group of people who like the same artist haha. We don’t have to agree on everything and people on here who don’t vibe with the song clearly have had no effect on the song’s success :holdmyhand:

Disliking the song is fine but when the criticisms are always coming from "inside the house" it gets a bit tiring and I'm not talking about you but in general, "it's not her song", "collabga" and all the funny comments we see sometimes.

And I never said people can't have different opinions, I just said some people were clueless for not expecting the song on the album when IMO it was clear for months they were going down that path, and by the way i call myself clueless all the time. :ladyhaha: It's not meant to be condescending, i just like the word  :messga: And I find a bit silly how everyone acted so surprised and by default started attacking the decision, any other fanbase would die of joy lmao
