Late stage capitalism's impact on our body images, insecurities, femininities, masculinities...it's all so ridiculous to the point of nearly self-parodic.

I'd argue that most of our presentation of ourselves is socially constructed (as is what we are attracted to).  If it is a social construct, why are we buying into it?  Weren't we "born this way?"  What happened to the era of self-acceptance?

It's comical, sad, and so predictable.  I think I'm just an idealist underneath my cynicism...but I'm so struck that we have a significant educated part of the public (certainly not all, look at the politics, lol) and despite access to education, technology, and an ability to not not buy into social norms - people still do **** like this...
