Miley Cyrus: 'I don’t have a makeup line because I'm not a makeup artist'

Don't think she's being shady, just honest. Miley hasn't toured since 2014 because she just doesn't want to, so it's safe to say she's someone who only does what truly makes her happy and she never had a love for make up so it wouldn't have been a natural fit. Miley's too much of a free spirit to run a major company and finds her freedom in music. There's much to be said about unqualified celebrities fronting brands they know nothing about what they're selling or the rules of business and it's oversaturated enough as it is.

I mean, she is right. I don’t love that Gaga has a makeup brand, it felt like it pulled so much of her focus for many years, and is essentially overpriced drug store makeup (can’t speak for the skincare/revamped Haus Labs) I thought at the very least her makeup would be more theatrical and Gaga.

Gaga never stopped creating because of Haus Labs. It was launched in 2019. She made ASIB and soundtrack the year before it came out and released Chromatica the very next year and the only reason that wasn't heavily promoted was the pandemic. Then she made the remix album, L4S, JFAD, Harlequin and now Mayhem. Hardly Rihanna. And the make up has had great reviews from respected people. The Triclone foundation has won many beauty awards. And understandably, when the make up came out, a lot of fans were disappointed that it wasn't extreme theatrical make up and there were people wanting stuff like lip transfers, glitter patches and suchlike. But honestly, she made the best choice making it all about regular, everyday make up. Most people don't wear crazy make up every day, they have no reason to. Most people wear normal make up and would buy out-there items just to have them rot in their make up bags. If she'd gone that route, it would have looked so cheap and tacky alongside Fenty and Rare and her fans would've got bored with it after a year or two. Timeless make up is where it's at if you want to make money. The sales of this undoubtedly help Gaga become richer and more able to be in control of her career, so I'm all for it, provided it doesn't become her full-time career like Rihanna.

taylor swift doesn’t have a makeup brand, Beyoncé doesn’t

makeup brands from musicians and movie stars, no matter who, just always feel like cash grabs imo

If Taylor's biggest focus wasn't music and Beyonce's wasn't family, it wouldn't surprise me if they went down that route. They both have perfume lines and other ways of fleecing their fans of money, they're not above that. They just want to do it their own way. Granted, most of these brands are just another string to the artist's bow and a way to get richer but if there's any celebrity for whom it makes 100% sense to start a make up brand, it's Gaga. That lightning bolt over her eye was the very first image of her most of us remember and what made her stand out and her bold and eccentric make up looks continued over the years. She even did that MAC lipstick limited edition range for charity. Her distinctive make up helped make her a star. For everyone else, it's a case of: "You're like every other celebrity who wears make up, what makes you so special?" I still don't get why Fenty Beauty became so big and still is. Neither have I ever looked at Selena or Ariana's make up and thought, wow, where can I get that look? It's standard A-list glam, what's the big deal?

Haus Labs will probably be sold to a giant company like L’Oréal or ELF at some point with Gaga being the origin of the brand story rather than the owner.

What makes you think that? Rihanna and Selena Gomez still have ownership in their brands.

The wait between pop albums before Haus Labs: 2 years

The wait between pop albums after Haus Labs: 4 years

Let's not act like we all weren't small bits disappointed to see one of her Instagram posts be another makeup plug rather than a music announcement. 2019 and 2020 were almost fully Haus Labs posts. The only tease for Chromatica for like 2 years was the Babylon mix on the original commercial.

the person I quoted implied she didn't have time for much else besides her beauty brand which is untrue as I showed, she's still an artist at heart even if the output is not something you care about!

This girl explained it here. And it’s probably not a bad thing seeing a lot of people literally hate the brand so much lol

I hope she finds a way to own her formulas because it’s truly one of its kind and completely not been done before :traumatica:

She really said “the last thing the world needs is another beauty brand” and to that we say “well, that’s too bad!” :enigma:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

she's released 4 albums, toured, shot multiple movies since then... why yall acting like she's Rihanna or something!?

Acting also pulled a lot of her attention, which is way more respectable than a makeup brand. But I also love Lady Gaga music more than I care about her acting career, and we went four years of only getting cover albums and sparse new songs. I love every Gaga album including the jazz cover albums, but let’s not pretend they hit the same as her studio albums. And let’s also not pretend the things she did in the early days of Haus Labs and her acting career live up to what we get now and what we got pre Haus Labs. At the very least she’s found a balance now to make it work. But Enigma Vegas, Chromatica, and even Love For Sale were all very half baked projects IMO and I blame her having her mind in two many buckets at the time. But of course, it is her life and her artistry and I will always stan no matter what. But I will always feel like Haus Labs was a cash grab.

Well it is.

Being a mainstream musician is a cash grab.

Everything related to fame/celebrity is a cash grab.

There's no argument here and Miley just Like Gaga, Taylor, etc. are all part of a huge cash grab group called Hollywood  :Lurk:

That’s an interesting video, but I don’t see how that explains your thinking that she will sell the brand? The video basically just goes over her own rebrands over the years. The creator even explains that by Haus Labs making quality products, the goodwill of the brand transfers onto Gaga herself, which is true.

What is your definition of “a lot of people”? There is no brand with zero negative reviews, and with Haus Labs I believe the positive reception outweighs it by far. It’s one of Sephora’s top brands and growing every year, I see no logical reason for Gaga to sell it.

Haus labs isnt overpriced drug store makeup though. There is actual innovation and product testing that actually makes Gagas brand one of the best celebrity cosmetics line. She is using the brand to make peoples skin healthier while they wear makeup which is 100% the opposite of drugstore makeup.

I don't see Haus Labs as merely cash grab though.

Most, if not all, of the products they released are innovative. Hence the triclone foundation and concealer which first introduced the used of fermented arnica that is nourishing for the skin.

If it's all about the money, they would have re-launched the eye-lie-ner because many people were craving for it to return. But Haus Labs didn't (maybe because the ingredients include carbon black which is carcinogenic). Instead, they tried to innovate by releasing a charcoal-based eyeliner.

I mean Engima wasnt her best work there's no denying that.

But Chromatica wasn't half baked, it was abandoned due to the pandemic.

And Love for Sale was never going to be promoted/toured in the same way Cheek to Cheek was because of Tony's health issues. I wouldn’t call it half baked.

And just to throw Harlequin in - that album got dropped as fast as humanly possible because of how badly JFAD was recieved.

I don't think we can blame any of it on Haus Labs.

She has Haus Labs now and look at  the Mayhem era. She's doing random tv promo, she's just finished the promo tour to end all promo tours. She's the only one of her standing holding their own in the streaming charts. She's got a sold out tour coming up as well.

your first comment made it seem as if hs is the only thing she got going and even you latter basically admitted it's not true

If some of the projects she's done are not for you that's totally fine but that does not mean they don't matter!
