I'm not much of a Lorde fan but this is a great music video! I rly dig artists that venture into minimalist performance art like this. It says a lot with so little. I wish Gaga would attempt something like this eventually.

Not really. Yes it's minimal in subject matter but it's still pretty maximalist and stylised more like a west-end / broadway show. Flashy Versace couture, over-the-top pop-style dancing on a highly detailed set of a New York street, full of garish colour and spectacle and bad camera work tbh lol.

I'm referring more to modern minimalist art. Empty gallery-like spaces, devoid of colour - nudity or emphasis on figures and movement. Contemporary dance and unusual textured matter like piles of dirt or whatever invading the space and the figure interacting with it. Like, Lorde is telling a story here through her movement and the camera is exploring this space with her. It's very abstract and kinda hard to explain rly. A similar example could be Billie's Birds of a Feather mv.

The verse is completely bjork, the rythm, the calling response the oohoooh, it works really well. The production is great. It feels like the year finally started musically
