Romania is back in Eurovision! In normal years I would be very happy, but I’ve 0 desire for this year.

Bulgaria and Moldova are back too! It’s really great that the east European countries are back to balance everything out. However it feels fishy they all return after some countries are planning to leave for good reasons. It feels like a cover up to keep the contest going.

The countries you mentioned are less hypercentralized than Austria except for the UK. Vienna hosted it already 2x, exactly because it is Vienna and it can a 3rd time.

The ratio Jerusalem-Tel Aviv is 1:2. Jerusalem is not a primate city.

Rotterdam is part of the Rotterdam-The Hague urban area and the Rotterdam-The Hague urban area is as populous as is the urban area of Amsterdam, also Rotterdam is only 45-50km away from the largest airport of the NL. Rotterdam is not a third-class city within NL but one of the 3 major big cities, perhaps 4 if we count Utrecht.

Italy is a dezentralized country with Milan, Rome, Torino and Neapel being the 4 main centers and Rome not a primate city, as Milan is the financial centre and Torino has about 1 million inhabitants with important national function.

The ratio Stockholm-Malmö is 1:3. Malmö has lots of music academies. Also Malmö is connected via bridge to Copenhaguen, the capital of Danmark with has 600,000 inhabitants, only 30km away. There is a major airport aorund Copenhague.

Switzerland is a dezentralized country. The 3 main centres are Zürich, Basel and Geneva and seat of government is Bern. The ratio Zürich-Basel is about 1:2. The urban area of Basel extends to France and Germany. And Basel is the major arts centre of Switzerland. Basel is more internationally acknowledged than Innsbruck/Graz.

Düsseldorf is part and in the centre of the Rhein-Ruhr metropolitan area, which at 10 milliion inhbaitants, is larger than Berlin.

Liverpool so far is an example within a very hypercentralized country and rather unusual and perhaps the one and only example of a city in the very shadows of a primate city in the 21st century of the ESC.  Liverpool city has 0,5 million inhabitants and Liverpool City region has 1,5 milliion inhabitants on 903km². (The area is similair to the area of Berlin). It is 52km away from Manchester. So Liverpool's greater area isn't small. According to Wikipedia Liverpool airport has 5 milliion passengers, while Manchester, which is 52 km away, has 30 milliion passengers per year. So Liverpool's airport infrastructure and number of hotels is still much better than is Graz and Innsbruck. So if we compare Liverpool's 5 milliion airport passanger's to Graz 0,7 million passengers....

@StrawberryBlond aren't you going to a Gaga concert to Manchester? Wouldn't you say Liverppool and Manchester are somehow well connected with each other?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_busiest_airports_in_the_United_Kingdom

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_City_Region

The ratio Vienna-Graz is 1:6.

The ratio Vienna-Innsbruck is 1:14.

Let's face it. Innsbruck and Graz are periphery cities in the Alps or at the edge of the Alps, and their whole regions have rather low population density. They do not offer as good infrastructure and hotel rooms as Vienna does. For such a big event as the ESC, I don't think any city other than Vienna will make it. For us fans, Vienna will also be a better choice.

What an unexpected great post ahah

Vienna LES go:ladyhaha:

Does anyone know how much a ticket for seats at the finale usually costs? I live in Vienna and might go if I can afford it

When I went to Malmo for semis and jury show of the final it was like 200-300€, my guess is it will be around that!

Let's restart and forget about today.

Let's not give the Israeli government the opportunity to continue and f-ck up the competition and divide us  before it even started.

I would be happy if the thread would be Israel-less as much as possible and we just focus on what matters, the music and celebrating LGBTQ+ culture.

The other mods don't care much about the Eurovision, but I do, and you know how annoying I can be and I can't shut up.. or worst.. I can just troll on purpose :Cautious:

So yeah.. that's it.

It's got to be tough to square away the part of you that views Israel as your homeland with the other part of you that's disgusted by the Israeli government's actions and then balance all that on top of being in defense mode 24/7, especially after being attacked this past summer and with antisemitism on the rise basically everywhere.

Thanks for being understanding when we disagree on mod and even personal stuff. I got your back no matter what

Not much to add. I agree I would like to keep Eurovision as a-political as possible, but sadly the past few years that has taken more and more of the fun we used to have. I am mainly scared my country, the Netherlands, and also other countries will drop out, when there is a possibility that might not be nice, but might be the best to have some peace and rest to the contest, instead of this constant battle.
