Johnny Rotten Compliments Gaga & DWAS

Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon tells The Guardian, when asked to name a song he pretends he hates but secretly likes, that the career-defining, super-smash, mega-hit that is Die With a Smile by Lord Mars and Lady Polanksy is a secret fave.

Lydon is further along his taste journey than GagaDaily moderator @PartySick who still claims to hate the song despite it being an obvious smash, much to the dismay of the larger taste-having community. :hor:

Referencing Gaga's iconic quote about how art and capitalism can be friends, Lydon says:

"Die With a Smile by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars may be written for mass consumption, and even though I’m not corporate-minded myself, that doesn’t mean that I dislike corporate philosophies." which is a unique stance for someone who once advertised butter on UK television

He goes on to say:

"I’ve always had a soft spot for Lady Gaga. I really like her vocal deliveries. They’re really quite excellent", which further cements Gaga's legacy as your geriatric artist's favourite artist. #slayqueen

After winning the hearts of Joe Biden (82), Tony Bennett (96), Liza Minnelli (79), Paul McCartney (82), June Brown (95), Gene Simmons (75), Julie Andrews (89), Brian Johnson (77), Mick Jagger (81), Yoko Ono (92), those nuns on tiktok (ages unknown), and now the Trump-supporting John Lydon (69), Gaga's infinity gauntlet of old people grows stronger each day.

Which elderly celebrity do you think will be next to sing Gaga's praises, and will she care?

Gays have the same taste as 80yo grannies we been knew :cheeky:

Men are naturally more dominating, aggressive, and logical thinking because we have balls.

I don’t even think it’s backhanded. He’s saying he likes her, and he’s stating that it is pop - true pop that is intended to be MARKETED to a large audience - but he doesn’t think that makes it fundamentally bad, and actually likes it. For ages have been dismissive of pop solely for it being pop, but just like any other music quality can exist, even amongst many artists that exist just as an attempt at a label marketing what they *think* people will like.

Yeah, he literally said he thinks she’s excellent and that there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with making commercial pop lmao. What a nothingburger

John's a punk, of course it's unexpected for him to say that he likes a commercial pop song but it doesn't have to mean that it's backhanded. It's always a good sign when non-conformists like Gaga's music, it means she's got fans across the board and will be here for a long time to come.

And this is certainly a unique way to deliver a news article, props to you!

It's actually a really lovely compliment too acknowledging how she is unique and creates quality work while still making it commercial. Lowkey it's affirming to her approach to pop since day one "pop music will never be low brow" during The Fame - or the very concept of reverse Warholian ARTPOP. Bringing in references and influences of fine art and experimental production into a commercial pop package.

I have removed "backhandedly" from the title of this post to reflect public outcry. :zilla:

I'm sorry my super serious post was considered clickbait and a nothingburger. Next time someone names a song I made as something "they pretend to hate but actually think is good", I'll try not to take that as a backhanded compliment. :cheeky:
