He is on the record saying he wants to be like Max Martin which is pretty bizarre for someone of his stature. Tame Impala's basically an Indie Neo-Psychedelia legend at this point. He has the respect of tastemaker crowds, top notch celebrity dough while being able to live his life without being harassed by the masses on the streets. If anything, being a successful pop producer would diminish his clout amongst people who care about his music and kill his own career's longevity...
