freebit 6,228
They don't vibe, and have obvious differences, especially about Kesha, but I think they've arrived at a mutual place of respect in that they've both been in the industry for the same amount of time, have similar experiences etc. She now knows that's it's like to be on the other side that Gaga was on in 2013. It was a very big of her to attend, especially with the rough period KP is going through right now.
A Hybrid 11,049
Does anyone else just see Katy as a campy funny person who's recently been making bad music? Like, I don't think she's the evil that must be defeated, and I don't think the space and tour jokes have been that serious either. Gaga's funny sometimes too ("I looked for evidence" and "100 people in a room" were ridiculous moments that were made fun of). I don't think most GGD users are being disrespectful or aggressive. On the other hand, where people ARE bullying her, I think Dr Luke is a terrible way of justifying that bullying. These two don't relate at all. TraeumereiLPB 416
You know, over the last years, I've made numerous remarks about Katy and her lack of vocal prowess, her questionable choices and behaviour etc. Some of them have been rather harsh, though it's always been in a more "sarcastic" spirit, or at least that was my intention. And to a certain extend, I still believe that celebrities have to be held responsible if they are being mean f*cks, being out of touch, lack the skills necessary to put on great performances, collaborate with criminals and so on. Obviously, Katy has given people lots of opportunities to make fun of, or criticize her considering how often she put on bad performances, how she presented herself on television and most recently, how she willingly worked with an infamous rapist and did that ludicrous space trip. As I said, she should be criticized, she should be held responsible for her actions, as she is a public figure and thus has a larger influence on things than regular people do. Just like Gaga working with R.Kelly and acting oblivious about his reputation got backlash according to her actions, Katy is getting a backlash proportional to her stupid decisions and antics. Nonetheless, I start feeling bad for her. Don't get me wrong, she got herself into this mess, right? And yes, she has to be told she is wrong, or she'd not have the opportunity to change her ways and grow from her mistakes. But... isn't it getting a bit out of hand? Don't WE have a responsibility as well? The responsibility to find a middle ground and not let justified criticism turn into mass bullying? A part of me wants to say: "She's a celebrity, she profits from the masses, so it's her own fault if she turns them against her by her own actions." True, but as with everything in life, there is a thin line between justified repercussions and senseless hatred. And I feel like this line has been crossed. Just like Gaga was laying at the sharp end of the knife in 2013, now Katy gets to experience the wrath of the world. And it feels... wrong. I still do not like her, from the very beginning when she came on to the music scene, her behaviour was off putting to me, and that never changed. She may be a millionaire with a bad attitude, a mean girl, a shallow popstar. But she is human as well. And maybe I am too soft, but enough is enough. If we as a society, we as a people want to progress, we need to learn to take the high road. It isn't easy, believe me, I often fail to do so. But if we let ourselves be consumed by hatred and animosity, bullying will continue to be justified as a regular form of punishment or exclusion, a tool to demonstrate superiority or the power of the masses. That's not OK. We already see Katy's daughter being dragged in the line of fire, so where will this stop? When are we satisfied? Let's continue to call out people who make bad choices, but let's not give in to the temptation and start crossing the line to bullying.
