Gaga and Katy Perry- Was there ever a real feud?

Hi little monsters,

After seeing some of the comments on recent posts about Katy Perry (and thinking back to past posts/comments where comparisons are made), I am finding someone smirking but now confused at how much hate is being sent Katy's way. So I want to ask the experts- was there ever an actual feud between these two that would warrant fans to continue being so nasty?? 

I also want to mention that I was in high school when ARTPOP was released with whatever Katy's album was at that time, and all I remember was everyone being upset because her album was getting better promo than ARTPOP. In my mind, those albums were entirely different and couldn't have been compared since one was extremely experimental and the other was mainstream pop. That being said, I have only ever been a fan of Katy's early music for the nostalgia factor and I don't necessarily think she would be my first pick of someone to get lunch with.

So I understand some of the negative comments because people like to hate and be dramatic, but it made me wonder if there is some deeper reason why fans are so nasty to her... or are y'all just trying to be dramatic (I say respectfully)? I think we should give her a break, she is doing her best and trying hard to do something. I have seen some footage of her shows and all I know is she can fill a room pretty well still and so some other groups of people DO love her and wanna see her.

Just ask yourself: "How mad would I be if someone told me Gaga's Coachella show was tacky?".... Whatever response you'd give to defend her is most likely similar to what any super-fan of an artist would do. So I won't say you shouldn't be shady when commenting on things because I know I can be... but don't do it expecting to change the minds of everyone in the world  Protect your peace and stay happy!

 

But if someone could answer my question that would be great... I only know their "feud" to be made up between fans.

Tbh, I think people who can read between the lines know very well that Gaga at least doesn't like Katy lol

I feel that Katy is a sarcastic, condescending and hypocritical person so I don't doubt that during the ARTPOP era perhaps there have been comments heard behind the scenes from her that Gaga didn't like, we don't know what happens in Hollywood but it should tell you something that Kesha, nor Taylor (although they have settled their differences which seemed false and ingenuine to me) dont get along with her

I don't think the "hate" is even about Gaga anymore but more exclusively related to Katy's recent actions and decision, it's more than that, everyone, GP and pop fans, here on GGD, twitter and ATRL, everyone were excited for her comback, until... Dr Luke news arrived.

Maybe the hate is a bit much, but she's not the victim here.

I would never call it a feud but in my estimation Gaga doesn't like Katy, but it's more due to the kind of person Katy is and not something she has actually done to Gaga in a literal sense. Idk if Katy said anything about Gaga, but Gaga made a shady tweet about Katy copying her back in the day, and then called her 'mean' in texts to Kesha and expressed frustration that Katy hadn't spoken up re: Dr Luke. 

I can only speak to my own experience of being a fan, but I think the general sentiment is that it was incredibly annoying that they were constantly compared to each other when it's truly apples and oranges. Gaga has always followed her own vision whereas Katy has always been a product, and that lead to her following the 'Gaga trend' like a lot of other popstars at the time who were trying to 'out Gaga' Gaga with their clothing, performances, etc. When that stopped being 'in', Katy jumped to the next trend, and the next trend, and the next trend...

But by virtue of them being huge stars at the same time, Katy's commercial success was used as a dig against ARTPOP flopping and Gaga burning out, and it emboldened Katy stans into thinking their talents were comparable  

Thankfully time has shown Gaga to be a once in a generation talent and Katy has shown her true colours over the years, so I guess Katy won the battle but Gaga won the war

she willingly worked with a known abuser, who abused her friend, when she could easily afford any producer under the sun

she chose to use AI generated visuals for her tour when she can easily afford to pay any visual artist to create something cool

and she started to rub shoulders with billionaires to take a pointless, environmentally damaging "girl boss" trip to just about space for no reason

these are all things i firmly stand against so i refuse to respect her until she begins her PR apology tour in a couple of years

The Gaga v Katy thing I'm not interested in; I'm not a fan of Katy because of what she did to Ryn Weaver. Then she did the Christine Sydelko thing. Then she did the republican thing. Then she did the Luke thing. 

I'm not gonna be mean about her online every chance I get and I don't think she necessarily deserves the amount of negative attention she's getting right now, but I'm also not gonna lose sleep over strangers being unkind to an unkind public figure.

I look at Katy's tweet after the Alejandro video premier as the start, and they both exchanged jabs for years afterwards so the feud was very much real.

Ryn went on one of her 3am goblin mode rants back in the tumblr days and said Katy was straight up cruel to her in front of their mutual friends. Yelling "That Ryn girl is so obsessed with me", staring her down all night, "Did y'all hear something?" Anytime Ryn tried to speak type of vibes. Then when Ryn snapped back, Katy threatened to have her blacklisted. And idk what came of that, but Ryn hasn't released much since then. There are a few articles about it and none that I've came across got the whole story before she deleted her posts but I remember being in the comment sections when she was going off live. Never shook the ick I got for Katy since then and she's only cemented that feeling.

Don’t forget about their first random interaction at that train station in 2009, where Katy said something along the lines of Gaga ‘being the new Madonna, but better’ and Gaga didn’t seem pleased with that comment.

I remember that video but didn't catch Gaga's reaction. Wasn't she speaking highly of Madonna at that time and would have taken it as a great compliment?

She was indeed very open about loving Madonna at the time but her reaction seemed to be a bit off. Like she was offended at being called ‘the next Madonna’ and the ‘but better’.

Now that I've seen Katy Perry "the astronaut", I can't imagine fighting with Katy Perry.

It would be like fighting with a potato or desert iguana.
