so we know broadly MAYHEM is about duelling herself and ultimately accepting / peace in the mayhem of all the different Gaga identities … but what was the story that played out in that blood-stained MAYHEM OPERA HOUSE?

My personal take:

🗡️Act I: Of Velvet and Vice

Mistress Mayhem, signs a contract / the death certificate of gaga…… they go to battle on (chess board)….

💀Act II: And She Fell Into a Gothic Dream

… although Gaga loses she doesn’t die!! The perfect celebrity can’t be killed as she is just a construct…… she rises from the dead, in a dream-like state, injured, and laments the past fame and love (paparazzi/alejandro) battling to regain strength …..

🐺Act III: The Beautiful Nightmare That Knows Her Name

the dream-like Gaga then rediscovers an inner beast / wolf (Killah/Zombieboy)… which she then ends up taming with more gentle songs HBDYWM, DWAS, finding some kind of light…. the monster choral singers mention mistress won’t like the gentleness/control she’s found and the lack of chaos and they grass on her (shade to media/fan base?) ..….

🔮Act IV: To Wake Her Is to Lose Her

Mistress Mayhem comes back now with a vengeance - this time fighting of equality and love (SOAM, KFL, BTW)… but then ends up wishing she could actually BOTH, chaos AND light……. Mistress wants to vanish into Gaga….

🫀Finale: Eternal Aria of the Monster Heart

There is some kind of surgery  (Bad Romance) where Mistress Mayhem’s heart is transplanted inside Gaga’s body so both can live together in peace.

Another message, which is both sad but hopefully empowering is Gaga actually wanted to end it all which is why there is so much ‘killing’ in Mayhem… wether that’s career-wise, or something more serious, yet she battled through and defiantly tells her demons monsters don’t die… and she now found a way to cease the chaos in her heart through love…..

📜The Manifesto of MAYHEM

The Mistress stands before me, eyes wide and full of wrath.
Her cane held in her right hand, on her left foot, a cast.

“Beware”, she says, the chaos in your heart will never cease, until you find another way to harness what you seek.

Her haunting tone, her restless speech, the music of her mouth, her screeching nails and inner life are like a storm: they’re loud.

At once, in all her glory then, we both begin to dance.

My head rolls back, my chest explodes, my hand begins to cramp.
To not know any peace is the great nightmare for us all.
To wake and feel unsettled in a house that has no walls.

So I must sing and build the walls to cradle my own space.
And my own sound will grow the fortress of a home erased.

And her and I, will find a way to live as dueling twins.

But I will know, if in the end, Mistress of Mayhem, wins.

Act 1 was her renewing her Illuminati contract (Michael's idea) :stalkga::abra:

It was actually her singing a new deal with FarmVille

I think the overall storyline is basically telling Gaga’s story, with an emphasis on her battle between her two halves: the peaceful one and the chaotic.

It basically begins by introducing the MAYHEM persona and depicting the fire that fuels Gaga’s artistry and wish to become an artist. She ultimately signs the contract that allows her to become just that, almost like a deal with the devil as we know fame is a double-edged sword.

It’s like the chaos overtakes her, but ultimately her softer side emerges when she meets her fans. I think act II basically depicts that: the birth of Monsters, like zombies rising from the grave, and the creation of a community of kindness. That gesture she makes towards the zombies when she climbs up to the opera window, to me, is a clear depiction of her and her Monsters seeing each other for the first time. It’s also not lost on me that she’s performing Paparazzi in this section, clearly referring the VMAs performance that arguably changed the course of her career and might have been the starting point to her tight relationship with fans.

The rest of the show is more of a celebration of her career, oscillating between her light and dark sides, with the Monsters always present (the skeletons in Zombieboy).

By the end of the show, MAYHEM and Gaga are surgically blended together, they vanish into each other as one cannot live without the other.

It felt like Gaga essentially reclaiming her Lady Gaga identity. Certainly the ending outfit even referencing her hip surgery while she was essentially dressed as an angel felt like a resurrection or redemption of Lady GAGA.

So I see the plot as this:

Act 1: Gaga's first peak as Mother Monster, her deal with Mother Mayhem being the sacrifices she made for that level of fame and success and it ending with Mother Monster's "death" (the hip injury & the ARTPOP era).

Act 2: This is Gaga's post-ARTPOP story, where she appears to have felt chewed up and spat out onto the rubbish mounds of Pop history.

Act 3: This is the hardest for me to read. But I think it is in part a reference to how in the post-Joanne era she essentially went on a healing journey that led to the life she had now. I think DWAS being included here is likely both a love note to fans and her to stage identity.

Act 4: Like others have said, this marks her return. The outfit being that grey utilitarian military vibe matching it to the opening of TCB and it's overall brutalist theme for me solidifies this act as the Chromatica era. When we realistically first saw the beginning of the rebirth of Mother Monster (who shows up for Hold My Hand).

Encore: The full rebirth of Mother Monster, now with added battle scars. Monsters never die.

This was my ONLY criticism of Gagachella, I LOVED how she introduced the narrative but I feel like it lost its way in Act 3-5 and I would've liked some extra interlude videos to explain what was happening to tie it all together.

LOVE all these explanations above

Act 1 was the start of her inner conflict, when mayhem took over to make her a star, she signed a contract in scheiße but wishes she could be a strong woman regardless of all the BS.

WHEN THE GIANT DRESS OPENED IT BECAME HER HEAD. It always symbolised her head. Mayhem called to her like a siren. Then as if by magic, the music flowed out of her, but there were warnings of betrayal. Her talent would be her Judas.

When she goes down into the dress she is emerging from her own imagination. Out of the front of her own head. The red cloth became her iconic TF hair cut.

The Sepia segment was Gaga in movie mode. She was doing something she loved but at midnight the beast started to try & take over - the beast being Lady Gaga the pop star - and paparazzi was her coming to terms with, but being scared of, the performer in her.

There are so many layers in this performance.

HBDYWM had monster ball boots. Do you want her, or do you want your idea of her? Here's both, since yall cry about wanting tmb gaga back so much.

Obvs poker face on chess.

Bad Romance, she has been brought back to life & this time she has accepted she is in a bad romance with her own self. Her star persona, her talent, and her Italian American wannabe-mother self. They are nothing monsters & monsters never die.
