Teletubby 143,489
Ester Dean, is an American singer-songwriter, who wrote numerous hit songs for singers including Selena Gomez ("Come & Get It"), Rihanna ("Rude Boy", "S&M", "What's My Name?", "Lost in Paradise" ), Rita Ora ("Love and War" ), and Beyoncé ("Start Over", "Countdown") During a recent appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” Hilson revealed she was forced to record Beyoncé diss track in 2009 that derailed her career. Hilson divulged how “Turnin’ Me On (Remix)” came to be: at that point in her career, she was building up to the release of her debut album while signed to Interscope Records under producers Polow da Don and Timbaland. Polow was adamant about getting a remix recorded, leading her to take days off from touring to return to the studio and pen a new verse. Instead, she was shocked to discover that Polow had lyrics from another writer (Ester Dean) already prepared. The verse in question included the lines, "Your vision cloudy if you think that you’re the best / You can dance, she can sing, but she need to move it to the left, left / She need to go have some babies. She needs to sit down, she fake / I ain’t turning it off, I’m stay turning it on. Go ‘head and tell these folks how long I’ve been writing your songs. I’ve been putting you on, just check the credits, h*e” Hilson said she rejected the verse, and went back to writing her own, but was eventually pushed into recording the remix anyway. "I tried to fight him on it and I began writing my own but he… It was quite forceful," she said of Polow. "In an executive-artist way. Involving others and kind of threatening my career, in a real sense." She explained, "My album wasn’t out yet, so it was like, 'You're not coming out if you don’t do this.' The mistake that I made was not continuing to fight, but I was in tears. I was crying. I was adamant that I did not wanna do that." Hilson said she was ultimately told that if she recorded the verse she was given, she could also write her own, and a final decision would be made once the two versions were compared.source "You b*tch!" ~ Rat Boy 1
River 111,983
I don't think this track was the reason her career tanked her name was too similar to Paris Hilton so people were confused trust me, I know. Also she was good writing to others, but she barely could write 2 good sentences for herself. this verse is so dumb, Blue Ivy could come with something better and sis is like the least talented Carter/Knowles out there. Come on and wrap that blade of grass around my hairy ass
CautiousLurker 18,486
I think they're both doomed tbh, we know Beyoncé has a hitman on standby, he's probably already on his way to take them both out - perhaps Ester can still save herself if she goes to Rihanna - Ri's the only one who can buy the hitman off, and cover it up - the hitman will bring a hog's heart to Beyoncé instead, Ester will have to go into hiding but it's the only way... At least she'll have time to write more diss tracks - she needs to be careful tho if she sends out too many, Bey might get suspilicious Edited April 10 by CautiousLurker Men are naturally more dominating, aggressive, and logical thinking because we have balls.
DrKindnessKunt1999 5,966
Didn’t someone from the Beyhive throw Beyoncé records at Keli Hilson at some point, too?
Chesescake 3,901
I don't even know there was a beyonce diss song. Is this a significant event back in the day?

Exactly. The issue is people wanna look back revisionist and pretend like she was primed to take on Beyoncé’s spot but that’s…not true lmao Keri Hilson got a little gobbled up by Rihanna, Leona Lewis, and Beyonce all kinda running in the RnB spot around ‘09. And THEN Gaga and Nicki ofc to follow. She just didn’t quite hit it off when she needed to. Janelle monae on the flip side was smart to kinda be cool building her base on small scale and making good connections to bolster herself into becoming the name she is now

AiDi 148
Um, nobody knew? I remember those times, I was in my 20s, and it was kind of a big deal. And because her career wasn't as big, it derailed it badly. 1
Killa 16,961
I liked keri hilson very much but never tò the point of checking if She had AN album etc.. had no idea about this. It could have affected her but She never stood a chance to be a big player besides being a featuring artist and writting for others.
Karl 3,317
The way you love me derailed her career, I remember everyone hating so much on that song and video (even tho I like it)
27monster27 12,348
Maybe it was Ester Dean who Beyoncé captured and not Sia. he/him/his
