JazzGa 14,621
The theme is tailoring and dandyism. I'm expecting to see a LOT of 90s/2000s hip hop and athlete fashion throwbacks, oversized suiting, logomania out the wazoo, etc, inspired by Dapper Dan specifically. And some historical references to "dandy" dressing like zoot suits, walking canes, spats, and that sort of "puttin on the ritz" sort of style. Did you guys know that the lyrics to Puttin On the Ritz were originally written about Harlem dandies and poking fun at working class Black folks spending their money on leisure and fashion? Of course the lyrics were later rewritten to be less race-focused. My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <3

Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibition is organized into 12 sections, each representing a characteristic that defines dandy style: Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability I'm not entirely sure what black dandyism is but I might need to do more research on the topic tomorrow. I know it's something to do with history, black rights, politics. Considering these things I fear there's potential for some.. fashion missteps. Dressing off theme could probably be considered somewhat offensive this year.. should be interesting to see Kinda cool to see them bringing attention to a subject like this in these times. Also interesting it's a theme based around menswear.. I wonder if the women will decide to dress androgynous or instead try to compliment the fashion of the men around them. Also this is a year the men HAVE to step it up. No plain suits the original theme was "Extragalactic: A Retrospective on Space and Fashion" from what i looked up last year. a lot of people were really confused when the theme was changed in october of last year, including me, bc i don't think anna has EVER done that. i understand why it was done, though. the theme for the guests is called "tailored to you" i believe, which is trying to highlight menswear in fashion, so there's absolutely going to be androgyny on the carpet. do you guys mind if i scream about the olympics
elijahfan 26,232
Most likely fake, it’s pretty unlikely she’ll take away from her rehearsal and rest time to go to an event she rarely ever attends anyway.

I think the dress code is called tailored to you. The theme/ exhibition is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Something that Dapper Dan started then evolved to hip hop fashion. It is rather confusing, but I’m under the impression that it is to celebrate black excellence so I’m not surprised if gaga isn’t involved as per cultural appropriation… Edited April 8 by Jackaroo
