I loooove the aesthetic you talk about, but I don’t think MAYHEM is giving campy or horror? Other than Disease, Abra, GOE (eventually), Perfect Celebrity and Killah, I think it sounds quite “normal”

To me it’s almost her most stripped down album, not that far behind Joanne actually

I understand the Joanne comparisons, but I don't entirely agree. It's weird because they feel completely different, yet they share similar messages. Joanne was supposed to be her "returning to her roots," but as she said in this interview, even though it was stripped down aesthetically/sonically speaking, she felt like she was further away from herself. In a way, it felt like a caricature of the "girl next door" persona that was supposed to be "real" and "genuine," but instead, felt very removed.

I think MAYHEM is her returning to her roots to the Lady Gaga persona, and in doing so, I also think it's representative of who she was before the fame. This feels like what Joanne was trying to accomplish, but in a more authentic way that bridges her life before Gaga and her artistry as Gaga. We've known for years that some of her biggest inspirations were musicians like David Bowie, Prince, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, etc., and their sounds are heard all over this record.

All that to say, I don't think this is her "most stripped down album" sonically. But maybe thematically.

In regards to the aesthetics, I think that kind of vintage campy horror works perfectly with MAYHEM. Despite what some people thought when the album was first released, it IS dark. Disease, Abra, GOE, Perfect Celebrity, Can't Stop The High, Vanish Into You, Killah, Zombieboy, Kill For Love, Shadow Of A Man, The Beast, and DWAS all have a darkness or an edge to them, either lyrically or sonically. The album's dark, but because it's not exclusively this industrial/electro-grunge sound, many people dismiss its darker elements. That said, the record's also incredibly fun and funky. That's why I think she could lean into the camp. I mean, MAYHEM has some of her campiest tracks imo (e.g., GOE, Zombieboy, HBDUWM, Killah, Kill For Love, etc.). I think those campy horror aesthetics would be a great way of blending the two different sides of the album.

It is a little weird that they're using the MonsterPaw.png that we've all had access to since the ARTPOP era (or sooner).

Maybe it is put up by fans? :bear:

Since Gaga trademarked the newest MonsterPawsUp symbol, she can't use it without her own permission, so imo she didn't give herself a permission to use it for the Mayhem Couchella, so she's using the free one from the ARTPOP era.

Come on and wrap that blade of grass around my hairy ass

Not some of you finding out right now that the whole aesthetic for Mayhem has been vintage horror since day one :toofunny:  Yall saw gaga wear a cunty-diva-boots the house down outfit in Abracadabra and forgot about the whole retro tv promo videos for Disease, the glitch-screen videos on YouTube and Die With a Smile MV being a literal 70’s TV show

could mean anything

Why are you f@gs melting down over a billboard... this is the least of our concerns.

Gaga's vibe is supreme. Her Coachella performance will surely be amazing. Camp, high art, emotional, irreverent... she can blend all these things into one cohesive vision.
