US sends migrants to El Salvador prison with no due process

The US deported more than 250 mainly Venezuelan alleged gang members to El Salvador despite a US judge’s ruling to halt the flights on Saturday after Donald Trump controversially invoked the Alien Enemies Act, a 1798 law meant only to be used in wartime.

El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, said 238 members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua and 23 members of the Salvadoran gang MS-13 had arrived and were in custody as part of a deal under which the US will pay the Central American country to hold them in its 40,000-person capacity “terrorism confinement centre”.

The confirmation came hours after a US federal judge expanded his ruling temporarily blocking the Trump administration from invoking the Alien Enemies Act, a wartime authority that allows the president broad leeway on policy and executive action to speed up mass deportations.

“Oopsie … Too late,” Bukele posted online, followed by a laughing emoji.

Soon after Bukele’s statement, the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, thanked El Salvador’s leader.

“Thank you for your assistance and friendship, President Bukele,” he wrote on the social media site X, following up on an earlier post in which he said the US had sent “2 dangerous top MS-13 leaders plus 21 of its most wanted back to face justice in El Salvador”.

In several sworn declarations, attorneys, relatives and a former official for the Department of Homeland Security have pushed back on the Trump administration's deportation last weekend of Venezuelan migrants to a notorious prison in El Salvador.

The declarations, which were filed overnight Wednesday, detail how some of the migrants were detained and how they were transferred to detention facilities in Texas before being sent to El Salvador. The declarations also allege that many of the migrants do not have ties to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua or have any criminal records.

An official with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acknowledged in a sworn declaration earlier this week that "many" of the noncitizens deported under the Alien Enemies Act did not have criminal records in the United States.

They would not be committingt these crimes if they thought an election loss was possible.   Democracy is dead in the US.

I'm not exaggerating.  A new president would inherit all the new powers Trump has taken for the executive branch which means a new president would have the powers to hold these people accountable.

Gosh this could be Boris Yeltsin to Putin all over again.

If a Democrat wins in 2028, they need to institute a mass deprogramming and "de-trumpification" (like de-stalinization) of the country. Jail him, jail any insurrectionists, ban MAGA as an ideology, write about Trumps evils in every textbook at every level, fully liquidate any business he has, etc. Repeat the last steps for people like Elon Musk and Andrew Tate.

I recently read that one of the people they deported is a gay make-up artist that has no ties to any gangs, just a Venezuelan immigrant. It breaks my heart thinking what hell he must be going through.

Democrats had 4 years to stop this from happening and they didn't. Even if they won in 2028 they're too spineless to actually do something meaningful about it. Trump, Elon and friends will get away with everything one way or another.
