„Let‘s see how their upcoming election plays out“ is kinda the sentiment since 2010. Mind you, they entered the EU in 2004. Maybe allowing them in was a mistake if they were a liability and pain in the ass of the union in 16/22 years as part of the bloc. Before every election we hear „This time the Hungarians really seem over it for real.“

Hungary is a pretty homophobic country with the majority of the population being very anti-gay.

In one way or another the majority of Hungarians did vote for this. And if you want to argue that they didn‘t, even worse, the EU is a union of democratic states. 

I want to apologize for the aggressive tone of my previous message. This topic is deeply personal to me, and it’s frustrating when Hungary’s situation is reduced to a simple dismissal. Instead of dismissing the country as a whole, why not push for stronger EU action—real support for independent media, civil society, and opposition groups? Eastern European countries have often been treated as second-class members of the EU, and abandoning them now would only strengthen authoritarian rule rather than weaken it

I always associated Poland as being a real conservative country and Hungary a real liberal one...  but my perception is that it is changing quite a bit? Poland seems to be getting more liberal while Hungary more conservative
