Orban and his government are the real issue, I really don't know what the solution is tbh I'm all for restricting their influence/vote on the EU, and other measures like restrict/cutting EU funding, I think kicking them out-right should be a last effort measure, if anything, for all the innocent Hungarians who don't support this.

I saw a news piece in the Finnish media a few days ago stating that the leader of the Tisza opposition party, Péter Magyar, has promised to end Orbán's 15-year rule and lead Hungary toward a stronger Europe.

What do Hungarians think of Péter Magyar? Does he actually have a chance of winning the next election? And would he be a better leader?

Magyar is like our last chance for the election in 2026. Some polls say he has a 8-10% lead against Orban right now, but Orban’s propaganda is crazy, he owns almost all major media outlets at this point and they LIE big time. They made up stories already about him including beating his ex-wife and harassing young girls in a night club. None of these had any truth in them but unfortunately when these made up stuff gets showed in TV, the newspapers, radio and internet ads 0-24, people tend to believe anything. Orban has a strong following with the old and less educated people and unfortunately they are the majority at this point. Orban is going to do everything in his power to keep in position, and some say he cannot be beaten through democratic ways because he is going to cheat away the elections.

Magyar is pro EU and anti Russia so if he wins there would be a complete turnaround in the Hungarian politics. He also has nothing against LGBTQ people and says people should live how they want to.

What should be done is limit their voting rights and influence within the EU, and we are already doing that.

But keeping Hungary in the EU is a danger to the whole EU, it‘s institutions and it‘s rule of law. Hungary is deliberately acting against the union in bad faith and proving to be the EU‘s achilles heel. 
 

In one way or another the majority of Hungarians did vote for this. And if you want to argue that they didn‘t, even worse, the EU is a union of democratic states.

So with the EU neighbors retaliate like they are doing to the US? I know Hungary has privilege and I fully understand how that it’s different from the US not being in the EU. But surely there’s some level of accountability?

Let's see how their upcoming elections play out. From what I've read on this topic, there's a bit of hope, and many Hungarians that don't support his government.

I accept that not everybody in Hungary support Orban or agree with him, BUT he has been elected FIVE times as PM. IT is a fact that Hungary does not comply with acquies anymore and de facto could not be admited in the EU today

And yet, Hollywood, the place that is supposed to be an "ally", has been filming in Hungary for years, many "ally" singers has been doing concerts there without a problem for years...

I honestly think that we're such a dumb community to let these things pass, we should boycott anything that touches Hungary.

How would that help the gay community here? At least we can see our fave artists sometimes. Lets clarify: the people who vote for Orban are either very old and/or very poor. They believe anything thats shown on the TV, and Orban pretty much bought all of the channels now. The spew their hateful propaganda 0-24. It’s getting similar to North Korea with every passing day here. Young people and the educated folks are normal people just like you and me and they dont want anything from the Orban regime. Unfortunately the extremely poor and uneducated are in majority here. 

You should send your hatred towards Orban, Putin, Erdogan and Trump. Orban wouldn’t care about your boycott of anything, he and his family are already one of the richest people in Europe as they stole all the money they could touch.

you can say same the about the gay community / pro Ukraine in Russia or pro peace / pro two states and pro Palestinians in Israel who are dealing with major boycott on their countries.

pressure on the governments is necessary, even if the price is that the gay community will miss a concert.
