MARVEL: Sadie Sink Adresses X-Men Casting Rumours

After being confirmed as a part of the cast for Spiderman 4, Stranger Things' star Sadie Sink was asked about her role in the Marvel cinematic universe. 

The actress has been rumored to be the company's top choice to play the X-Men's strongest telepath, Jean Grey

However, the confirmation of her role in Spiderman 4 left fans confused. Who is the redhead talent actually playing? is it Mary Jane Watson? Spiderman's often forgotten mutant ally, Firestar? Black Cat? . 

Or is it actually just Jean Grey, making her MCU debut, in a Spiderman film? . For context, Peter Parker has crossed paths with the fiery mutant, on several occasions, going as far as stealing a kiss from her, early on in the comics: 

But when confronted about it, Sadie kept it vague: 

She did not really confirmed, nor denied, whether or not she was playing the fearsome Phoenix, or somebody else . Personally, I think she looks a bit too young for the role, I feel like someone like Zoey Deutch would be a better choice:

I'm really not in the mood for another round of young X-Men.

imo the original team should be in their 30s, the New Mutants and other teams in the early 20s.

And please, no more Phoenix storyline for at least 30 years 

I really want Krakoa to be a thing, it's so refreshing.

Zendaya's character has a whole different name. Still, I obviously don't think they'll retire Zendaya as the romantic interest, so it's highly unlikely that Sink will play Mary Jane. Some fans speculate Black Cat, but I don't see it, she's too naive-looking for that role. I think it's either Firestar or Jean, and I hope it's Firestar cause I want someone else to play Phoenix

I agree, specially because so many characters do not work at all as 20 somethings. Mainly characters like Storm, Wolverine, and Gambit, would not really click if portrayed by really young actors.

Oh they will do Phoenix for a third time, rest assured . Specially if they intend to ever do Krakoa, that whole thing was 90% Phoenix . 

I think their only way to avoid a third Phoenix film, is if they adapt that story as a series instead, like they did with Wanda. 

Personally, I hope Sadie is not playing Jean. Her playing Jean implies a young Cyclops too, and I think he should finally get a proper gigachad adaptation in film 

Literally everyone got at least 1 cool casting except Scott in the movies  (Madsen was way too young in the first films, he was giving underwear model, not mutant papi ).

I think their only way to avoid a third Phoenix film, is if they adapt that story as a series instead, like they did with Wanda.

See, I could see Sadie as Hope, or Rachel. But not as Phoenix or Madelyne.

Oh, but they will 100% do the same popular characters from always. X-Men '97s success is most likely the main reason why Marvel got excited about this reboot, and the message was: the audience wants the classic team, with the classic outfits. 

I think they will include lesser known characters, but later on. My delulu request would be Keke Palmer as an adult Bronze 

I know she's supposed to be a teen + is a completely flop character that no one cares about, but in my head, Keke could play an amazing adult version of her. I just love Bronze's fashion and color palette, and I want Keke to be on the franchise  (and I doubt they'll cast her as Rogue, despite her interest in the role). 

But upon release... I see Jean, Storm, Cyclops, Iceman, Jubilee, Gambit, Rogue, Wolverine and Beast for sure. Kitty Pride was rumored, and maybe Angel or Psylocke, hopefully Polaris too. 

The rest might show up on the second or third films.

Yeah Sadie is more a Rachel/Hope than Jean.

I wonder which Psylocke they are aiming for, original Betsy, Kwannon body Betsy, Kwannon or new Betsy.

Polaris would be awesome, even Eye Boy, I kinda like him now, he's cool

I can see Prodigy popping up in Vision Quest with Speed and then going straight to Children's Crusade, Doom is here so I guess the plotline with Wanda fits perfectly.

but just without the no more mutants, which is sad..

I think they'll just make Betsy asian to round it up, and will call it a day. They'll use Kwannon's aesthetic, but will call her Betsy, she'll be british with asian ancestry, and that'll be it. 

The body swapping thing was too goofy, I don't think they'll adapt that at all .

A lot of people speculate Wanda will be used to reset the timeline, before starting the mutant era. She was somehow confirmed to be alive in the comics (they have this one comic book which is canon to the cinematic universe, and MCU Wanda is kept in hybernation). And honestly, it does make sense, I do find it very possible

As a long time xmen fan and Jean Grey fan, I personally don’t want her as Jean only because the run of the best comic stories they can use is the Claremont run from the 80s (The Phoenix Saga was also part of that) but in that run Jean was in her mid 30s. When she and Scott finally got married they were nearly 40 and when she finally had Nathan she was like almost 45.

Basically I want adult X-Men. Unless they’re gonna start with the OG lineup from the 60s when they were like 18

I really want Krakoa to be a thing, it's so refreshing.

If they did the actual phoenix saga properly they should stretch it out over 10 years plus so they should set it off after at least a few movies. They should do a few years of normal xmen and then have the mission to space that turns her into phoenix then she can be like Danarys from GOT where she has power and over time starts abusing it.

I think they’re definitely gonna follow the comics in the sense that she survives but has amnesia, Doom looks after her after finding out about her reality creation and warping powers. And uses her powers instead of draining The Beyonder like in the comics. Then I imagine Wanda will have to be the one to stop him once she gains her memories back.

I agree. Jean was modelled after Raquel Welch during that run, as said by the artist himself. And in the 90s animated series, she resembled Gillian Anderson. 

Her most popular iterations are unambiguously adult-looking. Sadie is gorgeous, but she's got a very teen-like appearance still. Her being so petite doesn't help.

Jean was literally a fashion model in the comics, and a recurring theme was every single character being attracted to her 

I think her being stunning, is honestly a relevant character trait for her. Same for Storm. 

To me, Zoey Deutch looks ideal, age and looks wise. She has short hair now, but they can give her a wig 

Plus, Phoenix is supposed to be intimidating, Jean has several dark alter-egos, and I don't see Sadie channeling the Black Queen, Dark Phoenix or Madelyne Pryor. 

It should be an older actress, to be able to portray the character's darkest aspects.

Yeah I completely agree plus some of her biggest storylines involve like affairs, death, mental health issues, kidnapping, cloning, sending her son to the future to be raised by her timeline alternate daughter. Plus Storm is her best friend and Storm is like in her 50s in the height of the comics.

I would definitely agree a more mature actress would be ideal, and I feel like the X-Men films need an almost soap opera quality to them.
 

We need an actress who is serious enough to basically act like she has schizophrenia during the Phoenix saga, but loving enough because she’s a motherly figure to a lot of the younger team members (I mean she’s been a leader of multiple off shots of the X-Men over the years.)

Also none of the rumored actresses for Storm match Jean AT ALL. So far, my favorite rumored name for Ororo is DeWanda Wise 

And she's stunning, but she could be Sadie's mom, they don't look the same age at all. None of the names being rumored for Storm make sense, if Sadie plays Jean. 

I hope Sink plays Firestar. Phoenix should be played by someone more mature.
