I remember when I went to see the Joanne world tour... She kept saying "I'm not Gaga tonight, IM JOANNE", to the point where I was like "huh... This is kinda... Off"

The fake southern accent she kept putting on too 😭 as a southerner, I can tell you that it was far from anything real lol

Not trying to **** on Gaga, just sharing the weird impression that that album had on me

I hate the narrative that fans don't like Joanne. I was listening to that album like every other album. Dancin in circles... sinners prayer.. Joanne.. just another day (I just jammed to yesterday).. John Wayne.. perfect illusion??? Amazing album and iconic era. Lowkey Joanne clears mayhem even, let's be real. Angel down?!

Certainly doesn’t clear Mayhem, but agreed that it’s a great album

And yet Joanne feels so inauthentic to me, it feels like an attempt to be a good girl and rebrand herself to the American straights and the Christians, the whole religious aspect of the album turned me off so bad, like all the prayers and the crosses and the jesus, not for me, it feels like the album is not "hers" but Mark's and Bloodpop's album, same thing with Chromatica, it's a more a Bloodpop ft. Gaga album than Gaga ft. Bloodpop album. she kinda lost "herself" in these 2 albums. I love Chromatica, but I have so many complaints about it the more I listened to it, to the point that I barely listen to 5 songs from it right now.

Also John Wayne, the symbol of homophobia, racism, sexism, been idolized is kinda bad.

Joanne was the moment when Gaga has shifted herself from being an activist about almost any injustice, to be calculated about what she said, to keep the image of the "good girl now", it's like Angel Down was a goodbye to that Gaga.

I really really dislike this album and this era.

Come on and wrap that blade of grass around my hairy ass

The more time goes on the more it becomes clear that her whole career she was creating characters to find her strength (but they were all her still) and ARTPOP was like the absolute peak of her creative escape. She did say at the time (paraphrasing here) that she doesn't want to be one artist, she wants to be every artist. And then after ARTPOP she kinda crashed out and realised she was actually doing herself harm, so she went so far the other direction trying to get back to her roots as a Stefani, a simple, family oriented, musician, that she kind of lost her 'artist' self and felt she was 'erasing' parts of her. But then obviously that didn't serve her either. This must lead us to her breakdown before Chromatica when she didn't know who she was or what her purpose was or why she should even stick around, which is where we get Replay, 911, Alice, basically the whole album

And it seems like now she's finally in a place where she's learnt exactly who she is, all the different versions of her that live inside her, and she's happy, confident and comfortable. No wonder so many people are saying this is the healthiest we've seen her in years!

I am SO happy for her and I really hope this time it's for real

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Love the title track. Million Reasons, Sinner's Prayer, Angel Down, Grigio Girls, JAD are great songs.

The album as a while just feels a little undercooked to me.

The complete shift in aesthetic midway through era makes no sense. John Wayne had a great video wasted on ... that song. Million Reasons is Gaga's worst video. She didn't really write PI and CTM ... mess

Each album is gonna have a flaw and it's not a validation of your album rankings.

Ten years from now we'll be hearing "I let someone else's vision (Michael) make MAYHEM, it wasn't me".

She was also trying to heal her father with the title track and she thought she did just like Speechless really touched him the first time he heard it but it didn't have the same effect, sadly. That made her depressed and even got to her head for a long time until she finally realized she couldn't heal that part of him and she moved on, so I feel like she was trying to heal others as a way to heal herself and that's so not Gaga at all because at the end of the day she is a C^nty Madre Monster

Well yea, we been known it wasn't at all Gaga despite her saying it was her most personal at the time, like minus John wayne and Dancing in circles most songs could have been written by almost anyone

Almost anyone is a bit of a reach, no? It still had a lot of personal layers that only Gaga/Stefani would know - title track, Grigio Girls, Angel Down, Diamond Heart etc

I loved Joanne, it felt so great to have such a deep personal album from her  + the era was amazing she FOUGHT for promotion

I find Mayhem very similar to Joanne, it's a very personal record about love, with some intense tracks to make us dance
