When was this secret ballad mentioned?

Expand

I remember Gaga mentioning it in her LA Times interview, don’t know if she spoke about it somewhere else:

“I’m thinking of one record I didn’t put on my [upcoming] album that’s actually… I might put it out so I don’t want to share the name. You almost got me [laughs]. It’s actually very fragile and not big — one of the first times I’ve ever done that. But I like big ballads. You can sing along about love in a big way. I love emotional, dramatic music, whether it’s James Taylor and Carole King or it’s David Lee Roth.”

Disease is the first single to kick off the era, DWAS is still a standalone single, off era, it doesn't mean it can't be on the album, like if it was a song from a soundtrack that has been added last minute to an album.

And she always made decision to chase sales, Venus was supposed to be the 2nd single, but then DWUW was getting a lot of buzz so they changed it last minute.

She's not an indie artist, she was always and will always be (along with any other mainstream singer) a commercial capitalistic product and will always chase sale.. it's all part of the big marketing plan.

Sabrina Carpet's Espresso was supposed to be a buzz single, it was not supposed to be added to album, but they added it last minute.

It's just one example out of many.

Actually, DWAS is the darkest song on the album, it's literally about the end of the world :air:

Swapping 2nd singles is completely different from changing an album's tracklisting to retroactively add a hit song :triggered: by that time the body of work, the album itself, is out and the only thing that changes is "which song do we promote the most". Single eras are rarely for me as it is so idrc about it other than enjoying the music videos when/if we get them. However, albums are important to me as full and complete projects.

You're comparing her to Sabrina Carpenter and honestly that just proves my point 'cause she should be above that :rip:

I could handle it if it didn't come at the end of a full year where I was asking "where tf is Lady Gaga?" when LGBTQ rights, women's rights, etc were all at risk in one of the most critical elections of our lifetimes. Just to find out she was quiet to avoid bad PR for Joker :rip:

The erosion of her activism, being diminished to a one-line platitude after winning a Grammy, and seeing her decide to put a song on her album just for the numbers? That's not it  DWAS is the symbol of what I think is going wrong with "Lady Gaga".

F*ck the brand 'cause I never stanned it, I idolized the woman herself :vegas:

Now don't get me heated again 'cause I'm legitimately enjoying her as a singer (and nothing else, which I've genuinely made peace with, cannot stress how actually unbothered I am about holding these opinions lmao) who just delivered one of her best bodies of work despite the infected pustule they stapled onto the end of the tracklist :vegas:

I think it was apart of the same sessions but she said somewhere that DWAS replaced a ballad that was already destined for the album and she'd hopefully have a chance to share it at some point. (maybe the tour?)

Expand

She never said that, she mentioned a ballad that did not make the cut but she never said DWAS took its spot

It wasn't

It was Bruno's song that he approached Gaga to finish together and they released it as a standalone single.

The only reason it hit Mayhem is 'cause it streamed well which is why I hate that song as it represents everything that's wrong with artists chasing charts rather than putting out good music.

Well, that and the fact that it's one of her most trite pieces of work

It was only an idea that Bruno had, and they created it together from a scratch of an idea...

Exactly. The song is credited as a Bruno record and was only added to the album due to the success of it. If that song didn't do well on the charts, I guarantee it wouldn't have been on the album.

Gaga herself even confirmed it wasn't for the album and was a standalone single.

Expand

Nope, nowhere ever has it been credited as a Bruno record, bffr. Music video and everything is on Gaga's channel, only the live performance is on Bruno's because it's from his show. Also Gaga is mentioned first in the song performers...

Of the few times I remember her speaking about it she said "Bruno brought it to me to finish writing it together". Something to that effect.

That's not what bothers me about the song either way though, we love a cute collab and Bruno's a king.

I literally only hate that it's on the album when it shouldn't be :icant:

I think it was meant to be a part of Bruno's duets series. But it was developed during the Mayhem sessions with her producers and with live instruments.

Thematically, the song fit the album and makes sense as an album closer ... But certain choices in production and vocal arrangement doesn't jive with the rest of Mayhem. DWAS, while beautiful , is very commercial and easy listening.

I think DWAS is perfectly placed on this album. Even if it was last minute, it’s perfect after the other two ballads.

It would be different if this was an album like Chromatica with all the songs going in one direction and DWAS going another.

It flows perfectly on a diverse album like Mayhem and if she hadn’t said it was a separate project, I’d believe it was meant to be the closer.

Ikr? Her description made me think of Happy Mistake. I need this song in my life and not in some archive of scrapped songs :fatcat:

I don’t think it’s fair  to extend the discussion to “all the problems “, so I’m focusing on DWAS again.

Just one question, what is the first single from All For You

Doesn’t Really Matter or All For You? :laughga:

Same same :huntyga:

Happy Mistake should have been on the album, one of her best ballads (and live vocals) left to rot on that cursed joker album :( (not the songs just the whole movie mess)

Does it really matter whether it was originally planned for the album or not? What does matter is that it’s there, and because of it, MAYHEM is already a Grammy-winning album. If you have a problem with that, you’re crazy!

You can always delete the song from your iPhone, but you can’t just casually slap a Grammy onto Gaga’s name.
