One important thing to remember is that the internet and what we see is a lot more taylored to each person than 15 years ago where for the most part everyone saw the same thing Just because you see it everywhere doesnt mean everyone is seeing it everywhere I was talking about Gagas career renessance with my brother and best friend and as of like a month ago they had JUST become aware that DWAS existed. When I said that song was huge and #1 in the world for months they were like "huh? I have never heard this song" . And FYI they arent boomers, they listen to new music frequently, but because they arent into pop, they literally never got recomended it so they never seen it or heard it U cant trust ur eyes. The internet shows u what u wanna see, not what most people are seeing I wish more people were aware of how much the current state of the internet is an echo chamber. I keep reading on this site how Abra is "a huge hit" and how charts are either "wrong" or "don't matter", when in reality they provide a much clearer (although not by any menas perfect) representation of the overall musical landscape at any given time.

Exactly. You can not get an accurate representation anymore on general popularity if something by how exposed u are to it online You have to take a step back and zoom out and look at the stats. Look at the number of streams, sales, youtube videos, radio ai etc. Those are real numbers u can measure Being recomended one Tik Tok dance of Abra after another or youtube short doesnt mean thats what everyone is being shown and recomended I kinda hate these internet bubbles actually. It has consequences outside entertainment. Politics became way more polarized as algorithms took off and I believe they are at least partially to blame. Ppl only get fed on stuff they agree with to reinforce their bias (and occasionally something complete opposite so they can engage and argue)
