Nycboy 1,053
Mayhem definitely has a shot at AOTY, or at least will 100% get a nomination. This album feels like it was made with Grammy's in mind. It reveres the musical greats (Prince, Bowie, Jackson, and even Gaga herself) but still sounds fresh. Sonically and lyrically, it reflects upon Gaga’s entire career (it feels like her era’s album, a victory lap of sorts for Gaga). There’s a song or genre to appeal to everyone. There are experimental and edgy moments but overall the album plays it SAFE which is what the Grammys like. It’s her most critically acclaimed album. It’s produced very well. And Gaga has amassed immense industry respect since her early days. Edited March 16 by Nycboy

My AOTY standars are very high, all I said was that I don’t think it’s good enough to be crowned as the #1 greatest album of the year. I stand by that, it’s a standard pop album without the massive commercial success that is expected from a pop album. There’s nothibg about Mayhem that’s so special or undeniable that I would want to honor Gaga and vote for her to win AOTY. It’s not 1989, 25, 24k Magic or Midnights type of huge pop blockbuster I want to know what your AOTY would be

dopega 3,727
sadly I doubt she'll ever win anything in the big categories as she's doesn't care to kiss anyone's ass enought to be cosidered in the first place

It’s only March and there will for sure be many releases and surprises coming from various artists soon. Yes, it is still early to map out all categories. But the landscape is starting to become visible as we only have 5 months left of the eligibility period. Any major artist could release before august, or they could not. andy232000 11,105
In case I did not emphasize it enough in my analysis, obviously this wont happen out of sheer luck. Gaga and her team need to keep campaigning for Mayhem when the time comes, on top of making the era feel full. Coachella, Copacabana, Mexico and Singapore will help, but she still needs to perform at more award shows, release singles (I think at least 2 more music videos are needed; even if they are a dying art, they make the fans feel like the era is complete), and she HAS to campaign. She may have the Pop nominations (and wins as of now) on lock, but id she wants the big award, she needs a good “For Your Consideration” Campaign: BBC radio, Tiny Desk Concert, podcasts targeted to voters, etc) all of these right around November - early January Edited March 16 by andy232000
whoresup 2,527
It’s crazy that we only have 5 months left of the eligibility period. If we don’t start getting announcements soon it might be a quieter year for major artist releases. it would be amazing and deserved but we will have to wait and see.

My opinion, but it's the opinions of Grammy voters that matter. I live outside the space time continuum.

This year is absolutely more quiet that the last. Harry Styles is rumores for April/May, but no actual announcement. Ed Sheeran spoke about his album in social media comments, but no announcement either. Other major releases outside of Pop could be Lana’s “The Right Person Will Stay”, scheduled for May 21 -but Lana has historically been snubbed by the Recording Academy in all categories. Lastly, “Who Believes In Angels”, a collab album by Elton John and Brandi Carlile screams Grammy profile. Brandi is a grammy darling, but she might not have enough people rallying behind her for an AOTY win

Pop records can be incredibly deserving too. Give Mayhem a chance. Maybe the reason you feel this way is cause the album is barely a week old. If Gaga plays her cards right (which believe me, I am not quick to say she will given her history), this could be the Future Nostalgia of this year.
GerMonsterNotta 1,371
I would love if she won this…. I feel like this her best shot in such a long time, and she’s worked her ass off to get to this point and recreate and reimagine her magic… Could we get a MAYHEM Grammy performance next year? I can see Abra acoustic… going into full high energy Zombieboy which brings down the house…

Midnights will always have a special place in my life. Even though Taylor was already a 3-time AOTY winner and even though Midnights wasn’t her best work, my vote for AOTY was always going to Midnights. Midnights is a massive huge blockbuster album that’s started the biggest and highest-grossing concert tour in history and has launched one of the most successful and dominant era for an artist in modern history 1
