SHALLOW

The album is so sonically diverse that DWAS absolutely fits it. Maybe Blade kf grass was not that needed since we already have a ballad

He's extra critical of her for some reason, he doesn't hold the same standard for other acts, I love charli, but he gave BRAT 10, I can't make sense of it lol I mean, it's a great and impactful album but it doesn't hold any water against MAYHEM imo.

And it's strange because he sings her praise if you ignore his pretentiousness. I was actually a bit shocked by the "strong" 7 after what he said with on the review tbh.

Fantano openly hates DWAS so he, like literally every other DWAS anti in this fanbase, aren’t gonna be serious about it.

It fits more on the album than Abracadabra for gods sake 😭

He praises it, high praise in some respects. His main issue seems to be that DWAS doesn't fit the album.

Gave it a strong 7.

What a joke. Not gonna watch it.

Judas is coming. Let the cultural baptism begin.

Strong 7 is quite generous imo! Some of the lyrics on the album are just :huntyga:, and I was really surprised he was willing to overlook that (Disease aside) and focus more on the production. He used to be pretty harsh on her lyricism, but it seems like he’s adjusted his expectations for her and just accepted it. This time it feels like he’s judging her on her own standards rather than holding her to the same bar as other artists, which is a win!

I think Brat is a bit different because Charli was intentionally writing and singing from the perspective of a vapid party girl. It was super self-aware and leaned into that persona, which is what made it so great for a lot of people. Plus the production on Brat was top-tier, which definitely helped elevate it.

With Mayhem, I can see why he didn't share the same enthusiasm as he did for Brat, and tbh I can't disagree with his points in the vid. So a decent to strong 7 feels like a pretty fair and generous score. Considering he wasn't a fan of Disease and DWAS when they dropped, that means he had to rate every other track on the album at least an 8/10, which is actually really solid :firega:

I think that without DWAS he would give it a light 8. :ohwell:

I'm here to take a break from university homeworks :/

I feel like people are only saying DWAS doesn’t fit the album because they’re associating it with its run as a single prior to MAYHEM’s release. Thematically, it fits in well with the rest of the songs, especially after Blade of Grass. And sonically, it’s not like it really matters since the record’s musically diverse.

Listening to DWAS in the context of Mayhem made me cry listening to it. After a long and difficult path Gaga finally fell in love with someone who is truly uplifting and loves her for everything that makes her Stefani :kara:

Truly so very, very tired of the DWAS discourse in this fandom. This has to be one of the weirdest things y'all got your panties in a knot over, I really don't get it :madge:

She's had piano ballads on every single album she's made, regardless of the genre or overall vibe of the body of work :alsemanche:

DWAS fits the album perfectly IDGI? It's one of the best songs/duets ever written, wtf?
