Blackout19 11,192
I want to start to listen David Bowie, and with which album should I start? It takes a smart brunette to play a dumb blonde.

Ziggy Stardust 111
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars maybe because it was the album of his that I listended to first and that made me a fan in the first place. there are plenty of other exceptional albums by bowie, but ziggy stardust will always be my favorite.
Elohim 1,641
I don’t know about being “the best” but my personal favorite is “Aladdin Sane”, there’s not a single track I dislike on the album. 1
HookerOnAChurch 6,786
I'd start from Hunky Dory and The Man Who Sold The World before Ziggy Stardust. Diamond Dogs might also be a good album to start with.

EART HL I NG 417
I think it depends on your personal taste genre-wise. Bowie was a chameleon and completely reinvented his persona on every album and with that, so did the music. He has nearly 30 albums so there’s plenty to choose from. personally I tend to ignore his first two (second one has Space Oddity, other than that the album gets almost no spins from me, and his debut is a baroque- pop nightmare but I guess it’s cute). If you like bigger 80s pop production try Let’s Dance. It’s Bowie’s most commercially successful album and it was produced Nile Rogers. If you’re more into 70s glam rock then Ziggy through Diamond Dogs (DD is my personal choice for a 70s glam offering from Bowie). For a more experimental sound try the Berlin trilogy: Low, Heroes , and Lodger. If you like 90s drum and bass/ house then try Black Tie White Noise (also produced by Nile Rogers) or Earthling. His final album, Blackstar, is an experimental Jazz-Rock record that is considered to be one of his best. Young Americans offers some top notch funk (the guitar lick from the chorus of Killah comes from this album, from the song “Fame”) If Mayhem has you in the mood for something dark, then try Station to Station. Sorry for the super long post, but I’m a huge Bowie fan and he has so much music that spans nearly the entire spectrum that there’s something for everyone. I hope I was able to help
Mars 2,248
Aladdin Sane: more classic rock best tracks for me: Time and Lady Grinning Soul Young Americans: more soulful best tracks for me: Right and Fame Station to Station: more experimental but the whole thing is genius especially the title track Lets Dance: more accessible, more pop. Modern Love is such a bop Edited March 11 by Mars
Max 21,626
Mayhem also finally got me listening to Bowie after my grandma tried her whole life because she‘s a huge fan. (She will be so proud of me when I tell her )
LauraPalmer 471
My favorite is Station to Station, but I would recommend someone to start with The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and just go from there. Everything from 1972-1980 is essential listening imo. I actually started with Let’s Dance a long time ago because I already knew the title track and Modern Love and I found the songs really accessible. i’m a woman, i insist, it’s my life ♀ 1
