The references to LES crew who lowkey don’t f with her anymore but she still talks about the time fondly. That’s cool. Also you can tell Zane likes this album more than Chromatica also which is great. I appreciate how she said that she needed to live life and got too wrapped up in “business” basically bc we could all tell. The material suffered. It was still good bc she is but it didn’t quite have that spark you can tell she’s got back on this album. It’s super cool to hear how aware she is again

I love how Gaga talks in riddles when she answers questions sometimes, yet after watching her for so many years I feel like I can see through that and almost feel like I know exactly what to expect from MAYHEM now :fan:

I loved this interview and by all the bits we're getting these last weeks, we're getting more insight in how Mayhem was created and what the concept of the album is. I can't help but feel that I have some difficulties wrapping my head around it, though. It might be because we haven't heard the album in full yet and that I'll understand it more then.

Of course Gaga is always very poetic and romantic -which I also love- and won't always explicitly say what an album is about, but -at least to me- the concept isn't as clear as with her other albums. Is this because of what I already said above? Am I misunderstanding or maybe even not understanding some things? Or maybe because the concept of "chaos" and "all the parts of my identity and artistry" is de facto more complex and less palpable than eg. the dark side of fame, family, trauma etc.? Is it a combination of all of this?

I was just wondering if anyone else has these same thoughts and/or if anyone can make it clearer to me. Anyway, this all doesn't take away that I absolutely love what we heard so far and that I'm super excited about this new journey and can't wait to discover Mayhem :)

The way I see it, SHE is Mayhem, her whole existence being compiled of being a superstar, a fiance, a normal girl from New York, etc… it’s the chaotic culmination of all of those things and this project is meant to be a glimpse into all the aspects that make her who she is. I don’t think the album has a clear resolution, other than the fact that ultimately it is love that grounds her and what she tries to find it in all of those different aspects of herself, because this chaos is a journey that will last her until the day she dies because it is who she is. That’s probably why even the character of the project is called Mistress Mayhem, because the chaos is her own personal existance.

I know it’s a bit nonsensical to wonder about it but I can’t help but wonder what are some of the thing she hasn’t shared with us fans or isn’t ready to share yet. We can only speculate I guess.

Editing to add that she doesn’t owe us anything.

I was thinking it may be family related. She’s never spoken to her relationship with her MAGA father since Joanne era. I’m wondering if that relationship has been as difficult for her as it’s been in my own home life with my Mormon MAGA dad (I’m gay and married). Obviously she doesn’t owe us anything like you said and she needs to have her privacy on anything she needs to be private with. I was just thinking of that as a possible thing she’s kept to herself.

The way I see it the concept is Mayhem because of how it was created. She talks about creating a song and halfway through it wanting to change the production and have the album itself go into that grunge genre but she stopped herself and said she will stick with her original idea even if that meant the songs did not sound similar to others on the album. We haven’t heard the full album yet but it sounds like she ultimately decided not to chase a sound like she did with her other albums and giving them an “outfit”. When you listen to her other albums you can hear the influences like the metal guitars throughout the born this way album etc. it sounds like she didn’t do that here.  So this is what set her free in making any song she wanted. I think this is how she defines Mayhem. Songs that ultimately stand on their own and they might be different.  This is what I kinda gathered from watching.

I also believe Mayhem is the culmination of music and genres she has tried in the past. She talks a lot about being a student of music and it does show. She has explored different genre inspirations throughout her career. So I believe the album celebrates all of the learning and might have different influences in it.

She does talk little about the album being gothic dreams as well that relate to her life. The Beast is about a werewolf but ultimately she is the werewolf when she transforms into “Lady Gaga”. It sounds like a song that centers around how her fiance views her when she becomes the werewolf of Lady Gaga. I believe in terms of that concept each song might be similar in that aspect. Dreams that reflect her life but told through creatures or gothic influences lyrically.

edit: I also want to add this is why Die with a Smile actually does fit on Mayhem because that’s the concept. The songs are all different.

I mean… obviously she’s not sharing EVERYTHING. She controls the narrative and tells us the parts she’s comfortable sharing. It probably might even be a little bit polished and rehearsed, but after all she’s the celebrity and we are the audience. I don’t expect her to tell us 100 % of what goes on in her life. I want her to have a life we don’t know about. I want her to feel safe, knowing we don’t know things she wants for herself and the people close to her.
