She’s just lifting the melody upward while the key/chord progression stays the same. She plays with harmonization sometimes to give the feel of a key change without actually changing the key (often utilizing the major and minor scales of each respective key).

Seriously, though, the way you explained what I was hearing in that part of "Disease" was so well-articulated and helpful. 

I've been trying to write an essay about Sky Ferreira's MASOCHISM for like months now, and it's frustrating how — because the album is (mostly) unreleased — there's no bank of existing writing/reviews about it for me to learn what's happening on a technical/formal/musical level. I try to listen to podcasts that dissect music production and stuff, but it's just difficult for me to learn that kinda stuff unless I have someone I can ask questions. 

Anywho, TLDR: Your answer was helpful. I wish I could hangout with you and listen to Sky Ferreira and ask you for terms/language for describing the music.
