"I wrote LoveGame for another artist. They ultimately didn't want it. I got to keep it. I'm happy that happened. I wrote it one night at 4am. The original vocal was recorded on the side of a computer. I could never top it, so I kept it." – Gaga via Gaga Radio

i really don't understand what is so hard to understand about her stating (multiple times now) that for a very long time she felt forced to create pop music that wasn't authentic to what she wants, i.e, her initial sound

false. she stated multiple times that every album sounds exactly like what she wanted it to sound at the time. she's never been dominated by labels in terms of her sound and presentation, and that's what set her apart from her peers at the time and why she changed the game so much. with her first four albums, she said multiple times that she's a pop experimentalist, an obsessive student of Andy Warhol and how that artistic ethos translates to pop music, which is broadly speaking all that she was about up to ARTPOP. A very subversive commentator as well as celebrator of pop culture and all its intricacies, intertwined with the exploration of her own identity and experiences. she said many times that ARTPOP was more than an album, it was her ethos statement as an artist. So it's really misguided to say that what she created at that time wasn't authentic to her, when in fact it was clearly her at the most passionate, audacious and driven that she's ever been.

However, after the ARTPOP disaster, I interpret that she kind of felt forced to abandon that artistic ethos for the sake of both her reputation and her sanity. That's partially what drove her to explore new ways of artistic expression (jazz, acting, ballads, etc.) And then we reach Chromatica, where she's stated in more than one interview that she fell in love with electronic and pop music again, and that has helped her heal more than what she did in the past. And now we have MAYHEM, which is her exploring the artistic ethos that she didn't touch after ARTPOP, which is why constatly states that she was scared to go there after so long, and most recently, that she thought it was a thing of the past / that it didn't feel authentic anymore. But thankfully it IS authentic (stated by herself) and now is the time where she feels the most confident as a female musician and artist (again stated by herself). So, that alone proves that her older self was by no means inauthentic, forced or as a means to achieve fame as some others have stated here.

This is only my interpretation of her artistic path, based on what she's been communicating throughout her entire career up to now. I just refuse to believe the idea that her 2008-13 eras were 'inauthentic' as I really believe it's the complete opposite

To be honest there's different steps in making demo. The very first demo of Applause is probably the worst thing she has ever made :ladyhaha:

Why is everyone all of a sudden turning on Chromatica. It's an excellent album and as Gaga as the others. Who else could have sung Rain On Me, Replay, Babylon? She poured herself onto that record.

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊
