I think this is intentional, whenever Gaga does that, it highlights that she means it very artistic.

I always liked the original Gagacycle cover when we got it (didn't meltdown) but used the Special Edition one because I had my music on iTunes and they were all Gaga's close up faces so it looked better and got used to it. Very recently I started using Apple Music and the Standard edition looks so great.

But to answer your question, the Standard version looks amazing with the letters, such a shame there is no vinyl version of it. The anniversary one would look amazing with BORN THIS WAY letters.

Gaga has this strategy that she does with lead singles which is.. to release something that isn't on the radio (Just Dance, Born This Way, Applause, Perfect Illusion, Disease) followed by a STRONGER 2nd single (Poker Face, Judas, Do What U Want, Rain On Me, Abracadabra). 

Bad Romance is obviously a monster hit and she believed that was the one but Telephone as a 2nd single with Beyoncé was almost a guaranteed hit. So imagine if she did Alejandro first, followed by a stronger 2nd single Bad Romance and THEN Telephone. I've never thought the possibility of what would've happened if they picked those.

I think that from ARTPOP and onwards, all her records became intertwined with other genres. Up until Born This Way we were used to an evolution of Pop on Pop music, and once ARTPOP came out, other sounds became part of her records.

Cheek to Cheek - Pure Jazz

Joanne - Pop Folk/Country

ASIB - Pop Ballad/country 

Chromatica - Dance Pop 

Love for Sale - Pure Jazz

harlequin - Jazz Pop

 

Gaga has well over 14 years since her las Pop-pop record. This Is how I interpret what she’s saying. Its pure pop and dark imagery that made her into the pop star she is. She deviated from that for years and now she’s going back to that

Might be easier to just follow the twitter account in the links (or just keep a tab open and refresh every once in a while), they're doing a good job of only posting these commentaries.
