GAGA IS GROOVY 160
I don’t really understand what Gaga means when she keeps calling MAYHEM a “return to pop” or says how Michael convinced her to make a pop record again….. apart from her jazz projects, isn’t Gaga’s entire discography pop? Someone help me understand. 5 1

I think in another interview she said something to the effect of “a return to the type of pop people knew me for at the beginning of my career.” Let’s just say 🗣️ I’m CREAMING 🥛 in my CORN 🌽 11

Someone help me understand. It's about her pop persona, not the genre. She did not feel "GAGA" for a long time. Michael convinced her to touch the passion of where "Gaga" came from. "And I still love you even if I can't see you anymore." 9 2
aaronyoji 2,040
I see it now, cuz In a way mayhem so far almost feels like she’s picking up where ARTPOP left off. I’d think the **** she took for that record and how heavily criticized she was really made her question her worth as a pop star, and I think that’s the nostalgia we’re feeling right now. It’s not because abracadabra sounds like her old stuff (it’s really new in a lot of ways) but it’s the feeling we get when we hear it 23

I think it just means she wasn't going to make another album lol.
AyeshaErotica 1,533
The question should rather be: Why exactly did she not want to do Mayhem/return to her pop music roots? And why did she do nevertheless (and not already 10 years ago)? The interview opens more questions than it solves! agentprovocate 164
so that's why since chromatica, I dont really connect with her music. it seems like she is being forced to do pop music again. and that's why her ballads are charting higher, then her pop music. so it was necessarily to add DWAS to mayhem and sadly without die with a smile , I think she won't have a top ten single
Red 96,239
I think in her mind she thinks Chromatica, ARTPOP and TF + TFM + BTW are different subgenres of pop? She needs to elaborate but that’s what I get from her statement. And if that’s so, she is not wrong. Edited 5 hours ago by Red If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating. Someone help me understand. In Gaga's own definition, only her "earliest pop" is "original Gaga pop", and the music after The Fame Monster or BTW a departure from that, it is "other pop". Think of pop classified into subgenres. All is pop, but only the earliest is the pop that Gaga means. And it seems she wanted to do original Gaga pop, but didn't felt she could suceed in it again, so she coose other subgenres. ceminay 697
It’s obvious she was forced and pushed to do Chromatica, she wasn’t in a good mood to be the popstar she used to be, so that doesn’t count. After ARTPOP, none of the albums other than Chromatica were pop in the same way as her earlier records. It shows that Chromatica wasn’t made organically.

But it is unclear whether BTW is same subgenre as TF(M) or not. TF and TFM belong together, but whether BTW does, too, hard to say. It could still classify as "earliest" or already be post-earliest. Judas sounds a bit like Abra and is BTW. But Judas could also be interpreted as "somehow should have been TFM."
