Big foreign acts, not limited to US artists, booked to play in Canada & Mexico invariably want to be paid in American dollars. The depressed value of their currency will force concert ticket prices up. If promoters can’t afford to pay in US dollars and agents/promoters won’t negotiate, foreign acts will simply avoid coming to Canada. Not to mention importing the tour merch from venue to venue, the merch will be even more expensive in Canada & Mexico than already is now I dont think the currency will drop so much further as to prevent concerts The Canadian Dollar is already flirting with all time lows (all time low I believe was 62 cents on the dollar and we dropped as low as 69 cents). A lot of pessimism is already priced in and more importantly rate differences caused a lot of the widenning in currency But rates soon in US will start to fall too so i suspect even if Canada goes into recession, the currency conversion wint erroad by THAT much more Maybe mid 60s at the worst and I dont see that being enough for Gaga to cancel a concert in Canada, especially since Toronto is one of the most expensive places for concerns anyway due to high population relative to number of stadiums and arenas. And even long term when some factories reshore abd you gain some benefits... your going to permamently loose exports as well because of retaliation which will offset some jobs as well The difference is you gain jobs producing stuff more expensive than you were importing it (because your nation is less competitive in it) while loosing exports of stuff your more competive in Makes no sense efficiency wise Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
