Reality 74,139 Posted yesterday at 06:17 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:17 PM To answer the OP's question, I would actually say that Chromatica had more hype going into the album. Obviously, we're all very excited for MAYHEMāI believe it will be her best album since BTW tbch, and the aesthetics alone are already my favorite of any eraābut Chromatica had a lot riding on it. I think many people here are conflating their personal opinions of Chromatica with the hype leading up to the album. Coming off of Joanne, people were starving for Gaga's return to her electronic/dance pop roots, and we all thought that Chromatica would be her 2nd coming. I'd also argue that the pandemic brought more attention to Chromatica. When we were all stuck indoors, Chromatica was like the main thing getting me through the pandemic, and I'm sure many people can agree. It was an insane time and the hype couldn't have been bigger imo. I'm f*cking stoked for MAYHEM, but I feel weirdly calm about it. I have a ton of faith in her, the music, and any promo she's doing this era. I'm just gonna enjoy the music and ride, and see where this era takes us. į°į©Yį¼Eį° || š¦š¹š¤
GregJA 5,095 Posted yesterday at 07:59 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:59 PM I feel like I was more excited for Chromatica simply because it had been so long since she released dance/pop music.Ā Ā But Mayhem is better so far by a mileĀ Mr. No Award Winner 2020
NoPaperGangsta 216 Posted yesterday at 08:14 PM Share Posted yesterday at 08:14 PM In general I would say MAYHEM because of DWAS and Abracadabra. And for me, again, it's MAYHEM. Because Chromatica pre-era, life was such a chaos for me, i don't remember a bit. Only thing I remember is right when Stupid Love was released and BOPPING to it. After that we all know how it wentĀ And thank GodGa, I feel like ME again thanks to MAYHEMĀ Spoiler Might be bc it feels so ARTPOP-y to meĀ Ā Ā Say what ever you want ok?! Ā hail to Venus! Lil1th 82 Posted yesterday at 08:17 PM Share Posted yesterday at 08:17 PM (edited) I was hyped for chromatica, (not as much as mayhem) but then stupid love came out and it just killed the hype for me. I loved rain on me though.Ā Edited yesterday at 08:17 PM by Philomena Cunk This user has been possessed by Bea Arthur
ThisGuyTony 29,442
At the time of release, Chromatica was the 3rd biggest female album debut with 48M streams and at the time earned the biggest debut for an album by a female artist on global Spotify (2020).Ā So Chromatica had hype hype.Ā The issue was the era was not memorable.Ā It continues to drop in streams year to year, itās her second worst streamed album. It just hasnāt aged well for whatever reason. MAYHEM has more fan hype based on Disease and Abracadabra alone. The major promo spots and performances show that the GP and casual listeners are aware sheās about to drop. Chromatica didnāt have any of this sort of hype.Ā Im certain the numbers will reflect this as well.Ā
NUTELLA 5,227
I'm more hyped for MAYHEM based on the sound/visuals so far, but this was such an exciting moment
bornthisway135 496
Iāve been with Gaga since The Fame, and I can say my excitement cannot be contained. I remember listening to the demos of Free Woman and Rain on Me after Stupid Love. I was PUMPED. Then when I hear the final versions it quickly dissipated. I really enjoy Chromatica, but itās my least favorite album. Seeing Chromatica live reignited my appreciation for it, but I havenāt been the excited for a new release since ARTPOP. After hearing Disease and Abracadabra, I feel nearly the same way I did when Aura leaked. And Iām almost positive this one will join the ranks of Born This Way and The Fame Monster. The promo. The interviews. The overall hype. Itās contagious and I couldnāt be any happier for myself, the fans, and Gaga herself. This will be the last album weāll get for awhile because her probably wanting to start a family. So I feel like itās a full circle moment š«¶
bornthisway135 496
Plus Iāve been wearing all my Gaga merch everyday since Thursday and plan on doing so until release day. Haha. Itās got my coworkers asking about her. Perfect opportunity to do little monster promoĀ
Red 96,202
I think Chromatica? Itās not that Iām not hyped for Mayhem but maybe I was more hyped for Chromatica. I donāt even know l- Ā this question is making me nervous If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating. 1
Mr Oak 7,358
Chromatica. We were all gagged by the visuals back then. I guess they had to make up for the actual music
MountainMonster 111
Iām an old school Monster. Been around since Just Dance and have lurked on Gaga Daily through every era until this one. MAYHEM has me so excited that I had to actually join the party. Ā I have not felt like this since TFM. I have not had random people talking about her organically since then - and itās happening. I live in rural Montanaā¦ even here people are well aware of Abra, DWAS and are excited for MAYHEM.Ā Ā That said - I loved Chromatica visuals from SL through ROM and the VMAsā¦ then the quality dropped for me. 911 really lost the visual cohesiveness of Chromatica for me - and I loved the world building, Technicolor futurism that Chromatica had up until that point.Ā Ā MAYHEM already has a very jumbled visual story going on - Disease vs Abra vs DWAS are all radically different. In this way, itās more like TFM and BTW, where each single provided their own unique worlds and visuals; and I think that is where Gaga thrives and shines. Where most artists evolve between album releases, Gaga evolves between singles - even from the same album.Ā Ā Long of the short of it - I think weāre in for an era like nothing weāve ever had. Evolving and constant visuals that each have their own potential to be viral in todayās fast paced and low attention span world.Ā

Stupid Love and Sour Candy had very mixed reviews from fans so I guess some people weren't very hyped Plus people werenāt able to go to the clubs and bars to hear it. highwayunic0rn 49
Going into Chromatica I was so excited as it was the first Gaga solo era I got to experience from the beginning since TFM (I renewed my stan card half way during Joanne) however after SL leaked and Covid first hit everything died for me. The overall era was just sad as the whole world was just dark, it will always be special as it was the first time I got to see her live since 2010 and the visuals plus concepts for the album are fantastic! But Mayhem is just on another level, I love Disease + Abra more than Chromatica as a whole and I love the vibe all round more! Hurry up Friday! JustTea 4,799
MAYHEM already has way more promo than Chromatica ever did, but ngl I was more excited about Chromatica simply because it was finally a dance-pop album from Gaga after soooo many years and I really enjoyed it.Ā Back then it felt like there was a total Gaga drought after ARTPOP till Chromatica 2013-2020...Ā MAYHEM is amazing, but Chromatica had a bigger impact on me so far. This might change soon though.Ā
