About Copacabana: am I making a mistake?

Hello everyone. I am writing because I have a question and I would be interested in reading your opinions, especially if you are from Brazil or if you have been specifically at Madonna's show in Copacabana. I am from Argentina and I doubt if it would be convenient to go to Gaga's show on May 3. I never saw her live (I didn't when she came with BTWB, one of the biggest mistakes of my life). In a sense I have already ruled out the possibility of traveling to Rio, mainly because I don't know if it will be a truly pleasant experience: I have never been to Brazil, I don't speak the language, and the idea of being on a beach with 1 million people (at least) terrifies me. I'm sure it would be IMPOSSIBLE to see her, if anything I would see a screen and possibly from a distance. I'm kind of hoping that she'll announce a tour and that it will include Argentina, but maybe it won't. That would be the ideal scenario. I'm not particularly interested in the Copacabana concert; I'm just hesitant to go there on the off chance that she won't come to my country. That said: What would you do in my situation? How was the experience at Madonna's show? How enjoyable is it for someone who is a fan, honestly speaking? Am I making a big mistake if I decide not to travel to Rio? For more context: I'm not alone, I could go with my partner, but he has the same insecurities as me. I'm also afraid to travel, that she finally announces a show here in Argentina and I've spent all my money in Copabana... But hey, you can't always win haha

So if you can afford It, why dont you guys think mostly about having vacation in rio. You speak spanish i mean everyone Will understand you.

This Is Just some unsolicited advice, ive never been there, nor ofc tò the madonna concert. At worst youve visited a really beautiful city full of Life. 

Theres many testimonies Who said It was Easy tò access the front row without queueing for hours. Thats all uncertain. Im sure you still enjoy from afar and take in the atmosfere, like a world Cup when your country wins. Or try tò go there.

Rio Will go Gaga that week. It must be quite AN experience no?

If you don't have Money tò spare. Im Sorry but maybe its not so much a good idea if you have doubts

it's an amazing experience, but yeah you probably wont be able to fully see her, but that doesnt take away from the experience

people here usually understand some of spanish or english, you'll be fine

im not sure she will be able to do other shows in south america, at least that was in madonna's contract

as for the crowd, it is just like going to a music festival

I believe is more enjoyable on the streaming, or only if you can go with friends some days before and camp to have a close spot to the stage.

Thank you for your answer  In Madonna's contract it stipulated that she could not do any other shows in any South American country? I didn't know that

I am in the same situation, but I decided to go with my friend anyway, he is traveling from Peru and I am going from Argentina so the language things does scare us a little but we are treating it like a vacation with a Gaga concert on top of it so we are happy even if we just see her from far far away.

This 100%. At the end, even if you go, you probably will see her through a big screen with bad audio and surrounded by sweaty people in a very hot weather. Maybe people are into that, I don't judging lol, but it doesn't sound cute to me.

I decided to give it a go and in my case I'm going all on my own from El Salvador!
i was in Rio last year (not for the Madonna show though) and brazilians understand spanish very well and for us native spanish speakers it's also not very difficult to undersand them since our languages are very alike (they joke about this and call it "portuñol"). Besides, there will be a lot of spanish speakers there too.

If you're really into dancing and partying, you should consider it. This will probably be the biggest show in Gaga's career and it's FREE, so I feel it's worth the experience. Even if you're not able to stand on the front, wouldn't it be fun to dance and sing to Gaga's hits with a million other monsters? 

Like others have said, if you have the money, look at it as a vacation trip with a Gaga concert included as an activity! Rio has a lot to offer (i highly recommend a trip to Arraial do Cabo)

Look, I’m from Rio and arrived at 8am so I could get the front row of the non-VIPs, so read with this in mind. It was great! The atmosphere that week with the whole city living and breathing Madonna was amazing, it was also great to know people and make friends from all over, a lot of people from Latin America came to the concert and Brazilians are very welcoming, so you do not have to be afraid of that part, I met a Russian guy that only spoke russian and english an came here by himself, and we became friends and he loved the experience (even when he didn't got so close) and the city, it you be a lot easier for you since we’re all latinos.

So, as people already said here, if you have the money, you should come for the experience, to know the city, visit our beaches and other places, make friends and enjoy the show, you may or may not be close to the stage, but either way, being surrounded by little monsters and even non-fans on that night is a magical experience! And even being far, the whole place is magical with the beach by one side, the buildings all light up on the other, Christ the redeemer behind the stage…

I don’t think it would be an experience that you would regret, even if you were really far from the stage, but think about it

It was indeed hot when the sun was out, but got a little cold by night since we’re literally by the beach

Thank you very much for your message, it encourages me a lot  And this thread you shared with me is essential! My other fear is to waste my savings on the trip and then not having it in case she announces a show in my country, in which I could get a very good location (if I spend in the show ticket all the money that the plane tickets and the stay in Brazil would cost me). But well, I can't know from now on.... Anxiety is killing me  haha

No creo que sea una experiencia de la que te arrepientas, incluso si estuvieras muy lejos del escenario, pero piénsalo.

 

Realmente hacía calor cuando salió el sol, pero hacía un poco de frío por la noche ya que estábamos literalmente en la playa.

As far as I know, there was almost no problems in that regard since the government used the same security plan they use at the New Year’s festivities in Copacabana (so a lot of police officers everywhere, surveillance drones, access streets being policed, the police sweeping the beach in the days before the show, etc). The only trouble I’ve saw was some people throwing a guy who was trying to steal on a garbage can (https://x.com/jaeraladraosz/status/1809980287712899386).

But of course, it’s a lot of people together, so is better to pay attention and have your belongings close, lots of people use fanny packs because of this and I used underwear with a pocket to put my cellphone just to be safe, but in general, is a pretty safe event.

I don't know if it will be the same this year, but if I remember right, the police didn't allow people to camp on the beach for the show, there were people who arrived at 2-3am on that day, but no camping
