im just so confused why emilia perez is winning. its being panned by critics and viewers alike, who is actually liking that movie ??- i watched it twice to make sure i wasnt crazy and i still think its so bad - the directors said some pretty racist ish too...... so idk why they would reward that.

Best Picture is likely between Conclave and Anora at this point. The have momentum right now. Emilia Perez is pretty much dead with all the controversies. Zoe is the lock for supporting since she seems to be well liked by voters. But I’m not EP to do well at the Oscars.

you guys didn't watch "I'm Still Here" and it shows...

jk

I mean, Fernanda's performance is by far my favorite of the year, but her chances are slim considering that she is Brazilian and unknown to most voters... so my bet for BA would be on Demi too.

It will be Mikey for actress, Anora is winning best picture easily. I want Demi to win but it will be Mikey.

I'm Brazilian so obviously rooting for Fernanda Torres, she's an amazing actress and I had so much fun watching her sitcom when I was kid, but I'm pretty sure Demi's taking it so I'm already happy with the recognition Fernanda received. Plus, I'm confident that all the bullshit with Emilia Pérez maimed the movie so I'm Still Here could actually take home the Oscar for Best International Film. Pretty sure Zoe is taking Best Supp as well, she deserves it and I don't really understand this Ariana talk, if Zoe didn't win I would give it to Isabella Rossellini.

See you at the beach. XOXO, The Mistress of Mayhem.

I think so. When actors sweep this much, it's pretty much decided, SAG is always the best indicator as most Oscar members vote there. Its been so cringey watching Zoe's acceptance speeches, though. She's overdoing it so much, putting on an accent when she thanks the foreign names, acting like she's part of this monumental piece of art when she knows the movie is getting lampooned online by the public. I think it must be so bittersweet for her that her first big awards sweep is because of a loathed movie that literally only the critics like. I'm imagining that Ariana fans must be fuming and losing out to Zoe will forever be one of their biggest fan meltdowns in a "Queen Ari lost to this?!" kinda way. And while I don't think Wicked deserved acting nominations, it deserved them a lot more than Emelia Perez did, so I get it. I'm still bitter that Gaga lost all those ASIB awards to Olivia's comedic joke of a performance in The Favourite, so I get it.

I think most of those awards came about because they'd already been decided before the public started blasting the movie. It wasn't until post-Golden Globes that the public at large caught on but by that time, there was no going back. It'll forever be remembered as one of the biggest mistakes in critics reading the room.

I saw Anora last night! Ass of a movie

Glad I found someone of the same opinion. I didn't actually see the whole thing but read the entire synopsis and watched key scenes. Terribly unrealistic movie, awful ending, terrible portrayal of the stripper community (even though so many of them love it) and definitely didn't think the acting was Oscar worthy, yet this Mikey Madison is being praised to high heaven even though movies about strippers never normally get award recognition. Jennifer Lopez famously missed out on Oscar nomination for Hustlers and that movie didn't get nominations from respected institutions likely for this reason yet Anora is some sort of masterpiece?

I just did not find Anora interesting. It was weird because it does have a plot, but it tries to be a coming of age film minus the actual character learning something. The acting was fine at first but eventually turned into a screaming contest between actors. Nothing interesting or Oscar worthy
