TheARTPOPball 221
The sound of music tribute, and cheek to cheek i think were both super pivotal moments in her career. Hot take, Im also gonna say Joanne. I think all of these projects were very necessary in gaga establishing herself as a vocal powerhouse and a talent that could appeal to all audiences. It reintroduced her to the public, and i noticed the mixed opinions of her, start turning more favorable around this time. It gained her a lot of respect and/or neutrality.
TheJoanneHat 1,271
Is Sound of Music really was a huge thing at that time? I really don’t remember It’s ASIB for me.

Its impact was much more noticeable in artistic communities. It was definitely brought up alot in my theatre class, and became a point of discussion in my chorus class. My highschool teachers who were fans of music were also talking about it.

For sure! I remember all the tabloids praising her, Hollywood being by her side and the general public really loving and living for that performance. All of that coming from ARTPOP. It was a crucial moment, a turning point (ASIB was way much bigger obviously, so I agree)

It was pivotal in the public perception of Gaga. Up until that point the GP didn't know what a vocal powerhouse she is.

RochestrMonstr 2,543
Everything she did from 2015-2019 basically. It all built up and up. She was no longer a polarizing current pop star, but a respected permanent fixture in the entertainment industry.
TimotheeChalamet 5,292
The Sound of Music got the gp a little invested in her talent and it solidified the perception with Joanne
Mirrion Rizzons 10,560
Sound of music set the stage for ASIB to shine and get the GP back on her side. Also I love seeing how much appreciation the countess gets these days, I remember before i was a monster when I found out she was 'replacing' jessica lange I rolled my eyes and thought the season would be terrible - eventually, the season was mid but she was the best part of it! Essence 196
Cheek to Cheek was so important. She demonstrated her sonic diversity, garnered the respect of the industry and older fans, and endeared people with her reverence and kindness towards Tony. Being a central figure in the last chapter of Tony's life will always be a part of her legacy. I think it humanized her for a lot of people. It reinvigorated her after the heartbreak of ARTPOP. And jazz is arguably her favorite genre to sing and will be a staple of her life forever. +1 to Sound of Music, of course. But I would argue Sound of Music was even more impactful off of the back of Cheek to Cheek going #1, winning a Grammy, and getting widespread acclaim just a few months earlier. P.P.S. I'm so personally grateful for Love For Sale, too - one more hoorah with some of her most lovely vocals ever and an expression of her kindness. Again, her story with Tony will endure forever.
