missed a big chance to thank Lady Gaga who started to make queer music when literal Disney Channel stars and RnB was dominating the charts. nothing was remotely queer oriented back then.

I better keep quiet.

Gaga has done many things but (minus BTW) her music alone has never really been that boundary pushing.

And Rihanna’s has by comparison? :icant:

Is she in the same universe where Madonna, Cher and Kylie exist? :ladyhaha:

Or did a Teletubby teleport her from mars?

Railing

I really don't wanna sound like those Nicki fans who always drag rap girls for not naming her as an influence, but I feel like it's rather obvious that Gaga was the main artist that opened these doors?

In 2008-10, Gaga was the only main pop girl who was openly queer, constantly advocating for the queer community, advocating for pop music to be taken seriously, and embracing drag influences & theatricality as a constant part of her performances and costuming. Her impact was clear, both on her peers at the time (see Katy's transition from OOTB to Teenage Dream) and on artists like Chappell now.

Maybe it's a situation like Olivia Rodrigo w/ Taylor Swift, where Chappell doesn't wanna be trapped in comparisons with Gaga, but it feels glaring to name an artist like Rihanna over her in this kind of statement :toofunny:

Yeah, if you actually watch the clip (:triggered:) it's pretty clear she's listing women who were unashamedly sexual throughout their careers, despite it harming their public image, and how that helped open doors for queer artists. Gaga has done many things but (minus BTW) her music alone has never really been that boundary pushing.

Days without a Chappell Roan incident on GagaDaily: 0 forever and always

I agree that we should let Chappel have her own opinion...

but girl, which Riri's and Nicki's bubble pop song repertoire are  boundary-pushing that even Gaga's music wasn't able to achieve.  :huntyga:

I'm sensing someone from her record label told her she cannot be seen as the Lady Gaga of this generation, so it's time to stop quoting her as an influence. Kinda what Gaga did with Madonna after people starting to compare the two of them

Side eye anyone who still supports Nicki Minaj, especially after what she did to her husbands victim, encouraging online bullying and what she did to Megan.
