hamartia 256 Posted yesterday at 06:55 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:55 PM Pls can we take that child voice effect thing away from producers it's giving me war flashbacks to that Remi Wolf song with the long rambly outro about getting abducted from the grocery store I think it's the skinny eyebrows and makeup that's making her look so snatched, and face tape lol
faysalaaa 3,614 Posted yesterday at 06:57 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:57 PM (edited) Why is it seen as a bad thing for an artist to have a signature sound today? Alot of her fans have been criticizing her for changing her sound the past two albums, so I think thats why she went back to her original sound Im in love with the song and video, but I do agree it shouldnt be the first single Edited 22 hours ago by faysalaaa 7
Battle 4 Ur Life 6,473
I love the song, it’s very catchy and gives me a hint of Kate Bush. Smash With a Smile
huttont 5,084
I’m here for it. The vocal effect reminds me of Melanie Martinez. Not marinas best work lyrically but it’s been stuck in my head all day
freebit 6,146
This song is as terrible as she is beautiful, sorry to say. 19 hours ago, Sneaky Oliver said: How? There’s something off about her recent songwriting but I can’t really put my finger on it I feel like since around the time she's started going by MARINA she started becoming too wordy in her songwriting instead of invoking a feeling - like, she's telling us, or talking at us (sometimes even preaching to us), and a lot of her lyrics have become very general, and not specific enough. A lot of the best songs invoke a dreamy feeling and focus on setting a specific tableau in the mind (the more specific and weirder the better), transporting us listeners. Gaga does this a lot, for a random example, in Boys Boys Boys she mentions "Don't forget my lipstick/I left it in your ashtray" you think of a sleazy fun hookup and can just smell the stale cigarettes the morning after, or Lana with Salvatore when she lists like soft ice cream, limousines, summer rain etc. you feel like you really did just have a summer affair with a rich Italian man. Shakira is great at this (I always love that lyric in Shewolf that's like "I feel abused like a coffee machine in an office"). Or Sabrina with Espresso with "I'm working late/'cause I'm a singer. A lot of fans theorize it was that class Marina took back in like, 2015 or 16 or so that messed with her songwriting or way of approaching it. It's like she just decided to start being too straightforward, and thus, boring. 1
HoeMoe 1,186
Great song, ruined by the baby-voice chorus... What’s fortnight
Concertaholic 5,547
I love her so much and have seen her in concert 5 times but I wasn’t thrilled by the song. It sounds like an amalgamation of some of her past songs and I really wanted something new and different. However, she looks absolutely stunning in the video! And the outro when she starts going really high in her falsetto is really beautiful too.
Concertaholic 5,547
Nevermind, it’s definitely a grower. The more I listen to it the more I enjoy it, and I’m kinda starting to live for the kitschy chorus
Togekiss 2,410
Super fun and cute. A smart play for the TikTok crowd with the pitching on the chorus but it doesn’t come off as cheap. I’m impressed! building a daydream

She said she's leaving it behind and flying high (vocally). She should have used that deeper voice on the chorus instead of the baby voice 👀
Grace 353
This isn't going to make sense but I'm somehow reminded of Katy's recent comeback? Not visually or sonically but like... there's something about the way it sounds like it was plucked straight out her discog 10-15 years ago with no evolution or progression. Like trying to recapture past glory without realizing the landscape has changed so much? I dunno, its hard to put it in words how the song makes me feel. I cannot for the life of me figure out what possessed her to think this was lead single material though

weed 72,066
It's cute... better than I expected with the teasers lol the whole song as a whole is fine. something about the video seems.. inauthentic lol but still cute, she's serving
Bully Pop 185
I love it, personally. Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land sounded very Family Jewels-adjacent, and this is giving a return to Electra Heart. the AuDHD polyamorous menace
