The police state are in every right wing militia etc as well. Not just as willing contributors, but because they need to know who to kill as and when they overstep or lose their value. Which if the night of long knives teaches us anything, will be soon

Infighting and fragmentation is a major factor of the left. There are countless ideologies and groups that just do not or will not overlap and it is incredibly annoying I agree with you. That division is exactly what helps the right to continue to rise as unified as they are

At its core it really is the cost of living crisis, exacerbated by decades of anti-leftists neoliberalism/globalism that created a growing wealth inequality. This allows for right wing reactionary views to thrive! Class issues first, leftwing economic populist messaging, and socialism is the only way to combat this

I also disagree with the notion here that the internet/algorithms are the ROOT cause. They’re simply the vehicle by which reactionary ideology and rightwing views spread. They wouldn’t be gaining such a foothold among mainly young men if the economic conditions for Gen Z at large weren’t so dire.

I blame the tech bros of Silicon Valley who were brainwashed by white supremacist ideologies which are now rubbing off on the younger kids who look up to them

I came back to this thread after a bit of thought and I disagree with the idea that gen z has gone right.

Boomers were conservatives 'cause they lived in a time of surplus and easy living due to the economic ramifications of world war 2.

Their kids had it a little tougher but focused on social issues more often than not. Gen Xers largely shifted left from the boomers.

Millennials were the first generation to really have a dire outlook for the world they were inheriting. Boomers' policies stayed trying to keep money and power in their own hands rather than their kids and grandkids. Still, we shifted even more left than gen x.

Gen z is the first to come of age in the time of social media. I don't think they've gone right, I think they're the first generation to fragment in both ways. Young leftists are far more progressive than average liberal millennials or Gen Xers. They go for people like Bernie Sanders when we go for people like Joe Biden or Kamala Harris.

Young conservatives are far more fascistic and ignorant than any conservative millennial. They go for the likes of Trump or Musk when millennial conservatives went for Romney or Pence.

It's still social media and online brain rot that pushes kids to both extremes but an extreme conservative is far, far more malignant than an extreme leftist so you notice them more.

They absolutely are a loud minority but the facts remain that leftists are fragmented and the establishment needs the far right to continue to push and defend the status quo and capitalism
