Teletubby 157,374
Cynthia Erivo is set to play Jesus Christ this summer in a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Hollywood Bowl. Erivo shared the news via Instagram and wrote: “Just a little busy this Summer, can’t wait.” She’s no stranger to the show, having starred as Mary Magdalene in an all-female version of the hit musical in 2020 and sung the popular number “I Don’t Know How to Love Him.” Performances for “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Hollywood Bowl will begin on Aug. 1 and run through Aug. 3. More casting will be announced at a later date. Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo is serving as director and choreographer for the show, while Tony winner Stephen Oremus is set to serve as musical director and conductor. Kayi 2,970
I'm not Christian but it's caricatural to cast a queer black woman to play a man's role Like this is nonsense, and Cynthia worths better than just getting controversies over controversies In my peace era. I'm a poc female like Cynthia, so it's not a shade but I still think that it doesn't make sense cause Jesus was a middle-eastern dude... It's not that deep in fact cause art can depict a lot of things even if it's nonsensical. But I know that it will nourrish Republicans rage and they are going to say trash things about her again on social networks and that's not cool cause she's a great actress and singer. The concept of Cats always scared me, like it's so furry-coded... And that movie in which Taylor Swift plays a cat is so creepy too. In my peace era. This is musical theater tho, they do stuff like this all the time, as is mentioned in the OP that she already participated in an all-female production of the musical before. There's been an all-male production of Chicago, people who don't match age/body/gender type are cast for roles all the time - this is very much common-place, tradition even Also republicans will say sh*t regardless, let them seethe, like, honestly I hope this gets them riled up - good, may their health suffer for it It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!
