Economy 48,072 Posted yesterday at 05:27 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:27 PM (edited) To be fair I never said it "couldnt" happen, nor did I think it was impossible. But I was pessimistic and skeptical It had been 12 years since she got a standard album track release (applause) that was smashing. After Applause all Gagas top 10s and hits that werent collabs or associated with a hit movie were: - Dope: Cute brief top 10 single. To be fair its impressive it managed to debut top 10 but not really a true single and it was still very close to Applause time frame were discusssing. Plus it was helped by the vevo ad that inflated its streams. - Million Reasons: Required heavy promotion + itunes discount + super bowl to make it got top 10 just for 1 week, tho to be fair it did have longevity - Stupid Love: Decent debut first week then started falling immediately each week. It was not a "flop" but it was not that smash hit either. It was only a moderate hit again After 12 years of all her smashes being either a collab or from a hit movie, I really did question whether shed ever get a solo hit from a standard album release ever again. I didnt think it was impossible but I found it unlikely. I thought the most we could hope for was Million Reasons and Stupid Love type of situation. Not a flop, even respectable hit, but not chart smasher. Well I was wrong. And im humble enough to admit I was wrong and in this case im very Happy for Gaga that she proved me wrong Edited yesterday at 05:45 PM by Economy

palma 7,731 Posted yesterday at 05:33 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:33 PM I think with the right song even Katy can get a cute solo top 10. With streaming and TikTok dominating music consumption all it really takes is to get people's attention. Gaga has always been a huge celebrity and there will always be some level of fanfare around her releases. But ngl I too only expected 1 week top 10s after Joanne + Stupid Love - it just seemed that the fanbase was not what it was to secure her #1 debuts. And of course, the radio would never really support her to get sustained hits. It feels so good to be wrong Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something? 2

GerMonsterNotta 1,023 Posted yesterday at 06:14 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:14 PM (edited) I think your thinking was rational and based on evidence, and many here felt similar ways, either fully or partially what came together for Abra, for me, is an accumulation of Gaga artistry through the ages in the cleanest way AND at the right moment… It has the dance-pop catchiness of Pokerface, it has the classic dark Gaga avant garde of Bad Romance, Judas, Aura, but it also has the hardness of Swine, the explosiveness of Donatella, Marry The Night, Schiebe, fused with the danceyneas of ROM….. the video and choreo of Born This Way… I feel like all the elements she has been working on came together at a time when the GP, the fans, a TikTok generation are ready to point to it and say - That’s Gaga again - but bringing it even better - We are ready and here for this…… this is actually very difficult to pull off and combine all these elements in the right way to not be ‘cheesy’ or ‘obvious’, and to also launch an era which is both avant garde but public digestible….. as well as doing it for the fans! And let’s not forget - NOTHING LEAKED (only herself with her own car snippet) for those that thought mega hit success was unattainable, you’re not mad!!! I totally see the thinking!!! But what she’s doing with this era is clearly a product of a lot of hard work, and she has the right people, right mindset to set it up best it can for success… I’m so glad it’s paying off… the industry is very competitive … huge congratulations to her Edited yesterday at 06:20 PM by GerMonsterNotta 2

Arcanum 5,058 Posted yesterday at 06:28 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:28 PM For some reason chronologically into her career she is +-2 years in the equivalent phase of "The emancipation of Mimi" & "Ray of light" . Mariah & Madonna have been icons each in their own musical district, so this pretty much establishes her as the giant of our generation. And it feels so good! I Wantth your Love...I Wantth your Love.

And of course, the radio would never really support her to get sustained hits. It feels so good to be wrong the thing is that she has struggled to even get to the top 10. Which is also due to new rules and streaming. The top 10 can be stale for weeks. Well and after Disease debuting that low, a new hit kinda seemed farfetched. I also believe Katy can do it. But it's more than just the right song. It's everything, from the week it debuts, where and how it debuts. What happened before, there needs to be some kind of narrative. Gaga has had people being aware of her, but not caring that much. Joker came and then there were people invested in her but it was just an outburst of negativity. The negativity flow on social media generates more due to how search engines and algorithms work, so such bad press is a hard time to release. The song has def the qualities for being a hit. but it's also luck, great strategies etc. Ofc there's the video which in this case really helped. But honestly the simple visuals cue also helped DWAS. IT's simple and memorable. To get through the general public everything needs to be sharp lasered focus. Otherwise people get confused or indifferent and simply move on. Look at Linkin Park. Never thought they'd pull it off. Also another case of keeping the usual recipe of success with just a few changes.
