China defends Palestine after Trump attacks

China has reaffirmed its support for a Palestinian state after Donald Trump’s surprise proposal that the United States should take control of Gaza.

On Thursday, Guo Jiakun, the Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesman, underlined Beijing’s long-held position against the forced displacement of people, saying that Gaza should never be turned into a “bargaining chip for political gains”.

“Gaza belongs to Palestinians and is an inseparable part of Palestinian territory,” Chen Xiaodong, China’s vice-minister for foreign affairs, told a group of ambassadors from Arab states in a meeting in Beijing on Friday.

Any arrangements regarding the future of Gaza must respect the will of the Palestinian people, Chen added.

“China has always firmly supported the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people and the effective jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority over all Palestinian territories, including Gaza and the West Bank,” he said.

I'm proud of China for holding this position against the US. However, I feel China is only doing this as an anti-west political move. On top of this, China talking about forced displacement is hypocritical given the situation with the Uyghur people.

Maybe they could do the same for Tibet and East Turkestan then? I agree that a Palestinian state needs to be established, but China is really not the country that has a right to talk on matters like this.

Parts of China that were occupied by force, ethnically cleansed and subject to military oppression. Really not that different to what's happened in Gaza. Regardless of what they are legally, they've been just as brutally treated.

It's really rich that people say this not knowing whether any of that is true or not. How would you feel if after 9/11 Al Qaeda announced NYC would now be an Islamic country that is no longer part of the US? That is absolutely wild and no one would agree to that, yet they agree to the existence of East Turkestan, which is a proxy largely financed by the US for a Muslim country governed by the same terrorists that carried out various attacks on Chinese soil.

It really (and I can't overstate this enough) is that different to Gaza, and if you compare the two you're just heavily diminishing Gaza and its struggles. Also pretty convenient that people always bring up these sort of things when talking about China like they are NPCs, but never bring up Hawaii or Puerto Rico when talking about the US. Really tells you a lot about the place they're coming from.

I'm not American if you're suggesting that. But the program of ethnic cleansing against the Uyghurs has been incredibly brutal. Forced sterilisations, 're-education', forced displacement, internment without trial, brutal cultural suppression... it's interesting, that so many on the left are so keen to jump to China's defence when they're such an anti-democratic, authoritarian regime. The region of East Turkestan (and no, I'm not putting it in quotation marks, it is a cultural and historical region as much as it is a political one) has never been as integral of a part of China as you're suggesting.

And the source of all of this is American media and American-funded NGOs. It's always like that no matter where you look. One of the main purposes of the recently extinguished USAID was exactly that, to finance media outlets and shape the way news were reported. That is also the purpose of the US Agency for Global Media, that finances, amongst other outlets, Radio Free Asia - the original source of many of these claims and many other pieces of misinformation about countries that threaten the US in one way or another, be it China itself, be it Iran, be it the DPRK, be it Cuba, whatever.

And it's not just Americans that are fooled by it. Such a coincidence that the #1 geopolitical enemy of the one imperialist country that's been waging wars left and right on half the world for over a century is constantly demonized on US media and by US-backed organizations around the world. Color me shocked! Whatever interests may lie behind these claims? No worries I guess! I'm sure everything is cool and totally factual! There's no point in delving a little deeper than what Western media is saying!

Oh man, I'm not going to engage with this kind of extreme rhetoric any further. Let me guess, NATO expansion was to blame for the invasion of Ukraine, wasn't it? Was the Tiananmen Square massacre nothing more than a hoax? Is human rights just a Western concept that's being imposed on these poor, downtrodden autocracies?

To criticise the West on human rights and disinformation and defend not only China, but Iran, North Korea and Cuba too is almost beyond parody. If you're not being ironic and sarcastic like you usually are on here, I fear for the future of global geopolitics.

Is it really impossible for you to believe that someone could investigate something further, do their own research and still not come to the same conclusion as you? And I'm the one who doesn't even engage with the other side? You're just as ideological as the rest of us, you haven't been awakened to some kind of enlightened higher truth as you seem to think you have been.

This is why the far-right is on the rise. Because people are sick of being told that they are objectively wrong and need to be 'educated' just for holding a contrary opinion. Someone defending the idea of liberal democracy and rejecting authoritarian autocracy does not make them the US-bootlicker you're trying to make me out to be. Quite frankly, I could not care less about the United States, in fact at the moment, I want absolutely nothing to do with it. Yet somehow an American telling me what I should and should not believe is not the kind of imperialism you're suggesting?

The world isn't just communists and fascists. I'm probably on your side in relation to a whole host of things. But the minute you start telling someone that they've been brainwashed you completely reject the idea of civil debate.
