Jay23 350
I can’t quote everyone to respond, but to summarize: Yes, I was raised in a Christian background. No, I’m not religious or brainwashed, although when I pray, I pray to Jesus. I agree with the people who have said Christianity and religion in general has caused multiple problems in history, and still to this day. No, I don’t think the word Abracadabra or practicing rituals or witchcraft is satanic, but the user/invoker can absolutely use it for dark and satanic practice if they choose to. Yes, I’m aware satanism as a religion shows acceptance in some of its teachings, but I believe dark is dark and light is light. The entity known as Lucifer is a fallen angel and has been an enemy to humans long before Christianity was even a thing. No, I don’t believe forming a satanic sigil with your body in the music video of a song about magic called Abracadabra is just for theatrics or unintentional. Nothing Gaga does is without intention. Yes, satanic worship is absolutely present in the music industry. Yes Gaga has been accused of it before, but there is easily artistic explanations for all her previous accusations. This time, the sigil she forms and the upside down cross on her body is absolutely meant as magic. Thats literally the point of the song. To all the people laughing at me here, do you truly think Gaga doesn’t believe in this stuff too? Of course she does. She has confirmed her belief in spirit and energic work since as early as Pre-ARTPOP with Marina Abromovich. I’m also not trying to change anyone’s minds or convince anyone of anything. I created this post because I wanted to know if there was another explanation for the symbols she forms with her body in the music video. Most of the time, this "Satanic" allegations in the music industry were an over exaggeration by conservative people by looking at the aesthetics they use which may not correspond with Christian values. Most atheists and gays also respond to it sarcastically. Gaga is a practising Catholic herself despite she used many aesthetics for creative reasons that don't agree with Christianity. Gaga forming a sigil is the core theme of Abracadabra. I don't think she worships Lucifer, she just keeps her Catholic beliefs more liberal and private. 1

Jay23 350
Just now, Chromanne said: What Are you Protestant or Orthodox? Don't get me wrong I'm just curious. I’m none. I believe in God but I’m not religious. I think all the religions have some truth and lie in them and the reason for this is because nobody is alive today from however long ago when the truth was true. This topic goes much, much deeper and connects to other things. I won’t even bother to go there on this forum for obvious reasons. But it’s off topic anyways.

I appreciate that cause I’m aware I’m probably one of the the least conventional lady Gaga fan on here lol. I mean, I love her as a person and I’ve been here from the beginning, but I’m 30 now, so I don’t really “fan” over celebrities anymore. But I love and respect her as a person and I hope to work with her one day. The more I look into the song, the more questions come up. It could be my interpretation, but even the first few lines of the song kinda feed the theory that this is satanic in its intention. The way she describes paying a toll to angels drawing circles in the clouds takes effort to reflect people’s prayers to the conventional angel as a price/toll, and then drawing circles in the clouds sounds like an intentional trivialization of the conventional angel’s action. Followed by: “Keep your mind on the distance when the devil turns around” . It seems like she’s saying when the conventional angel’s answer feels far, remember the devil is still there. Then the “phantom of the dancefloor” line.. those words could also be phantom( spirit) of the dancefloor (music.) Spirit of music - Lucifer (I agree this one is a stretch tho. But just saying) First of all, sorry for the very long post ahead. Maybe a should have made a thread but I’m not sure if that’s the case. Being a Gaga fan since Poker Face smashed (I’m almost 31) I understand the lyrics very differently. I don’t think she is fond of the devil at all. I belive the song tells a story of how she overcame all the bad things that happened to her since she broke her hip, including all the bullying from the media, other artists and her own fans, during the ARTPOP era. That’s what the devil means in the song. She is catholic (like me) and I can see how portraying bad things or situations as the devil makes a lot of sense to her. She begins paying a toll to the angels (meaning everything is fine, even the instrumental is very smooth and clear). “Drawing circles in the clouds” may refer to a natural and beautiful fenomena called “fallstreak hole” (which I understand as being something good that the angels do, something from God/Heaven, she is vibing with heaven). “Keep your eyes on the distance when the devil turns around” means she is trying to keep her eyes on the angels (distance = clouds where the angels are) focusing in what is good, but the devil is turning things around (like she is saying to him “bitch don’t kill my vibe”). Next she is praying for the angels to save her “from this empty fight in the game of life”. She then finds herself “in a trance” with the “lady in red”, maybe a bad version of herself (addiction?) or the devil himself, and she is almost dying “hearing the last few words of her life”. That’s when she knows she has to do something and she starts casting the abracadabra spell (the chorus of the song). Some say abracadabra means “I create as I speak”. She fights “the devil” with hard work and willpower. She sings in the second verse “don’t waste time, use your passion, no return”. She is already breaking free from the devil after the first chorus/spell, she gotta keep going. When she asks “the phantom of the dancefloor” (the devil) for a “sinful melody”, she is actually luring him into a final ambush. That part can be reffering to the radical acceptance estrategy that she used when dealing with all the trauma. She talked about it in that Oprah interview. She then casts the final abracadabra spell and we will find out how the story goes in the next songs. I could make a thread about the possible meaning of the lyrics but I’m too lazy for it. Be my guest. About the satanic sigil, are you reffering to the inverted pentagram? If so, I don’t see it in the choreography. I mean, she is literally wearing a big cross (not an inverted one). Even an inverted cross not always represent satanic worshiping, it can represent the martyrdom of Saint Peter who believed not to be worthy of dying the same way as Christ so he requested to be crucified upside down. She could be using satanic symbols though, because she is talking about the devil. But I don’t think she is praising him. 1

Meaning your interpretation and mine can both be true. The definitive answer could only ever come from the creator of the art, Stefani. We as the viewers can only speculate our theories by looking to surrounding factors for more evidence of whichever interpretation you think is right. But both of these answers are all narratives for the public.. At the end of the day, if she really does worship the devil, then she’s already done that. Magic works with the energy she uses to create and perform it. It doesn’t matter whether you’re right or me, because nobody would actually know who she prays to except for her. Either way, The theories about Hollywood are all too real and this is coming out more and more in recent times, so it’s not so hard to believe. Personally, if it were not for her forming the sigil shot at 1:22, I would not be making this thread cause everything else in the video is totally up for interpretations that aren’t necessarily satanic. And no, it’s not the inverted pentagram. It’s the satanic sigil. Which is only ever used for praying to the devil. It's about protecting yourself from darkness. She's not invoking evil magic to cast a satanic spell on anyone. You're obviously bothered by the invocation of a certain symbol, but how do you know she's not demonstrating something she's trying to protect herself from without explicitly saying it? I also feel that sometimes, people embrace Satanism more as a reaction against Christianity than out of genuine belief, which can lead to a superficial or reckless engagement with it. Yeah but at the same time, so are religions. I’m not talking about bad acts done in the name of that. Just about the idea. People make it bad in this case. Sugar, spice, and everything nice.
